Hie aim of the study was to evaluate an effect of silymarinphospholipid complex on the development of experimental atherosclerosis in rabbits. The experiment was carried out on 30 mongrel rabbits randomly ascribed into three groups: I - control, II - fed with high-fat diet, HI high-fat diet + silymarinphospholipid complex. A significant increase in total lipids, triglycerides, phospholipids, ß-lipoproteins, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, as well as a decrease in IIDL-cholesterol in the blood serum were observed. Coadministration of silymarinphospholipid complex attenuated or even normalized lipid metabolism disturbances induced by high-fat-diet. Apart from hypolipemic activity of the silymarinphospholipid complex, an inhibition of atherosclerotic plaques formation in the aortic intima was noted.
