The aim of the research was to determine the lipid profile in different age-groups of Simmental cattle. Studies were conducted on 90 specimens: 30 calves (up to 8-weeks-of-life), 30 heifers (up to 30-months-of-life), 30 adult cows (after 36-months-of-life). The following parameter levels were determined: total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and total lipids. The determined fraction levels in the majority were lower in calves. However, with heifers and adult cows they were comprised in the boundaries of the physiological norm or were slightly higher than it.
The resting concentrations of cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerols (TG), phospholipids (PL), total lipid (TL), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-cholesterol, LDL-C) and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL-C), additionally magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca) levels were examined in 10 young Standardbred horses after six months of physical training. Blood serum and standardized laboratory methods were used for determining TG, TC and HDL-C concentrations, as well as Mg and Ca. The amounts of TL, LDL-C and VLDL-C were counted by use of the Thurnham (TL) and Friedewald equations (LDL-C,VLDL-C). Results indicated that serum total lipids, TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C and VLDL-C differences before and after conditioning were relevant. There was a significant increase in the serum Mg concentration while the level of Ca was found to be unchanged. This study concludes that a long-term moderate exercise program can improve serum lipid and lipoprotein pattern and Mg concentration in the trotters which may be beneficial to their performance.
The aim of the study was to develop an intravital method of collecting hemolymph and to establish standards for the biochemical parameters of the hemolymph of the Cornu aspersum snail species. The research material consisted of 80 Cornu aspersum maxima snails. Hemolymph was collected from the main vessel with a sterile syringe and needle after removing a fragment of the shell. Hemolymph was studied biochemically by the colorimetric method. The parameters evaluated were aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), amylase (AMYL), urea (UREA), and triglycerides (TG). An average of 0.54 ml hemolymph was collected from the animals tested. After 24 hours, a film formed in place of the removed shell fragment and it underwent mineralization within a few days. All animals included in the study survived, and from some of them it was possible to collect hemolymph several times at intervals of several days. The proposed method of hemolymph collection made it possible to obtain material to develop standards for the biochemical parameters of hemolymph and consequently to monitor the health status of these mollusks.
Epidemiological studies have shown a positive correlation between the incidence of coronary heart disease and elevated levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglycerides, as well as lower levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in blood. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of the addition of evening primrose seeds and safflower seeds on selected morphological and biochemical blood parameters of experimental rats on a high-fat diet. The experiment was performed on 30 rats (male and female) of the Bufflo strain. The animals were divided into 3 groups, which were fed a high-fat diet and herbal supplements. It was shown that both evening primrose seed and safflower seed, added to the diet, resulted in reduced levels of triglycerides in blood. They had no effect on cholesterol. These vegetable supplements also changed some of the morphological parameters of blood, including the number of leukocytes.
Pojęcie zespołu metabolicznego określa powiązane ze sobą zaburzenia metaboliczne będące czynnikami ryzyka przewlekłych chorób niezakaźnych - zaburzenia tolerancji glukozy, obniżone stężenie lipoprotein o dużej gęstości (HDL) i podwyższone stężenie triglicerydów (TG) w surowicy krwi, otyłość oraz nadciśnienie tętnicze. W wieku dwudziestym wielu badaczy starało się określić wzajemne relacje poszczególnych czynników ryzyka, a współpraca Międzynarodowej Federacji Diabetologicznej (IDF), Amerykańskiego Towarzystwa Kardiologicznego (AHA) oraz Narodowego Instytutu Serca, Płuc i Krwi (NHLBI) zaowocowała w 2009 roku obowiązującą aktualnie definicją zespołu metabolicznego.
