The present study focused on recordings of sounds of Saxicoloides fulicata (Indian robin) from Kalaburagi distract, Karnataka state. The study was undertaken during the Many 2012 to April 2013. During the study period about 50 samples of sounds of Indian robin were recorded and spectral analysis was performed subjected to sound samples. the study results indicate that, three types of sounds were identified and with significant variations in their structural hierarchy with distinct high and low frequencies.
The objective of our study was to compare the cardiovascular effects of moderate exercise training in heathy young (NTS, n=18, 22.9±0.44 years) and in hypertensive human subjects (HTS, n=30, 23±1.1). The VO2max did not significantly differ between groups. HTS of systolic blood pressure (SBP) 148±3.6 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure(DBP) 88±2.2mmHg, and NTS of SBP: 128.8 ± 4 mmHg and DBP: 72 ± 2.9 mmHg were submitted to moderate dynamic exercise training, at about 50% VO2max 3 times per week for one hour, over 3 months. VO2max was measured by Astrand's test. Arterial blood pressure was measured with Finapres technique, the stroke volume, cardiac output and arm blood flow were assessed by impedance reography. Variability of SBP and pulse interval values (PI) were estimated by computing the variance and power spectra according to FFT algorithm. After training period significant improvements in VO2max were observed in NTS- by 1.92 ±0.76 and in HTS by 3±0.68 ml/kg/min). In HTS significantly decreased: SBP by 19 ±2.9 mmHg, in DBP by 10.7±2 mmHg total peripheral resistance (TPR) by 0.28 ±0.05 TPR units. The pretraining value of low frequency component power spectra SBP (LFSBP) was significantly greater in HTS, compared to NTS. PI variance was lower in HTS, compared to NTS. After physical training, in HTS PI variance increased suggesting a decrease in frequency modulated sympathetic activity and increase in vagal modulation of heart rate in mild hypertension. A major finding of the study is the significant decrease of resting low frequency component SBP power spectrum after training in HTS. The value of LFSBP in trained hypertensive subjects normalized to the resting level of LFSBP in NTS. Our findings suggest that antihypertensive hemodynamic effects of moderate dynamic physical training are associated with readjustment of the autonomic cardiovascular control system.
From the aerial parts of Zoegea leptaurea subsp. mesopotamica (Czerep.) Rech. (syn Zoegea mesopotamica Czerep.), 9α-hydroxyparthenolide was isolated. This compound was identified by spectral methods (1H NMR and 13C NMR). This research confirmed earlier indications about the presence of 4,5-epoxygermacranolides in the Zoegea L. genus. Thus, distinctive chemistry feature of plants in this taxon has chemotaxonomic implications.
Bats are the second most speciose order of mammals and are under significant threat throughout the world. Survey and monitoring of bats for conservation are severely hampered by the lack of a reliable and user-friendly method of identifying bats from their echolocation calls. We recorded and described time-expanded echolocation calls from 23 bat species in the National Park of Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli, Greece. We compared the performance of quadratic and linear discriminant function analysis (DFA) of calls as a means of identifying species. Quadratic rather than linear DFA has been used by several researchers because of the violation of the method's basic assumption (homogeneity of variance-covariance matrices). However, when linear DFA was applied for the classification of recorded species in this study, correct classification rate was identical to the quadratic functions (82.4%) and linear models did not misclassify bats to the species with the greatest dispersion, the main problem caused by violation of the homogeneity assumption. The advantage of linear DFA is that it provides discriminant function coefficients. The linear combination of these coefficients and parameters from calls from unidentified bats can be used for species identification without access to the original data sets, an option not provided by quadratic analysis. When separate models were developed for Myotis species and for FM/QCF species, correct classification rates increased to 84.8% and 93.4%, respectively. DF coefficients thus provide a reliable identification tool, but intraspecific geographic variation must be taken into account.
Cyclic population dynamics of small mammals are not restricted to the boreal and arctic zones of Eurasia and North America, but long-term data series from lower latitudes are still less common. We demonstrated here the presence of periodic oscillations in small mammal populations in eastern Poland using 22-year (1986–2007) trapping data from marginal meadow and river valley grasslands located in the extensive temperate woodland of Białowieża Primeval Forest. The two most common species inhabiting meadows and river valleys, root vole Microtus oeconomus and common shrew Sorex araneus, exhibited synchronous periodic changes, characterised by a 3-year time lag as indicated by an autocorrelation function. Moreover, the cycles of these two species were synchronous within both habitats. Population dynamics of the striped field mouse Apodemus agrarius was not cyclic. However, this species regularly reached maximum density 1 year before the synchronized peak of root voles and common shrews, which may suggest the existence of interspecific competition. Dynamics of all three species was dominated by direct density-dependent process, whereas delayed density dependent feedback was significant only in the root vole and common shrew. Climatic factors acting in winter and spring (affecting mainly survival and initial reproduction rates) were more important than those acting in summer and autumn and affected significantly only the common shrew. High temperatures in winter and spring had positive effects on autumn-to-autumn changes in abundance of this species, whereas deep snow in combination with high rainfall in spring negatively affected population increase rates in common shrew.
Identification of cultivars is essential both in breeding and to settle cultivar disputes. The purpose of the study has been to examine cultivar identities based on absorption spectra of plant pigments and to confirm a genetic stability with SCoT and RAPD molecular markers in new Polish lines of Chenopodium quinoa Willd. Spectral analysis of pigments extracted from plant inflorescences in quinoa gives an opportunity to confirm the cultivar identity and identification of ‘Faro’ and ‘Titicaca’ cultivars and their new lines. Spectral analysis is an effective method of confirming cultivar identity and it should be used in practice for the identification of cultivars or cultivars lines in Chenopodium quinoa Willd. Analysis of molecular markers indicated by RAPD as well as SCoT technique revealed a high genetic stability of the derivative lines of ‘Faro’ and ‘Titicaca’, while variation was detected in plants representing original cultivars: banding pattern different than predominant was present in three plants of ‘Titicaca’ (genetic distnaces from 7.5% to 55.9%) and in a single plant of ‘Faro’(genetic distance 61.2% as indicated by SCoT technique).
W pracy badano trend liniowy i cykliczność średniej rocznej temperatury powietrza w Szczecinie w ostatnim 60-leciu. W tym celu zastosowano metodę regresji liniowej oraz analizę widmową, opartą na analizie szeregów czasowych Fouriera. W ostatnim dwudziestoleciu (1989-2008) zauważono występujące w tym okresie lata o ekstremalnej średniej temperaturze: zimny rok 1996 (7,09oC) i ciepły 2007 rok (10,28oC). Stwierdzono występowanie dodatniego trendu liniowego średniej rocznej temperatury o współczynniku regresji 0,0242oC·rok-1. Wykazano także cykliczność zmian analizowanej temperatury powietrza o dominującym okresie około 8,6 lat. Do dokładniejszego określenia tendencji zmian wymagane są dłuższe serie pomiarowe temperatury.
The aim of our study was to characterize the dynamics of heart rate variability (HRV) during sleep in healthy subjects and in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Present results were compared with earlier data obtained in healthy subjects (1) performing intermittent voluntary apneas. Power spectra in low (LF) and high (HF) frequency band and non linear indices: correlation dimension (CD) and recurrence plots were computed. New indices were applied: a beat-to beat control (BBC) for the assessment of cardiovascular regulatory mechanisms as cardiac, vascular or mixed type control and COT for quantification of relative contribution of cardiac and vascular component in blood pressure variability. During Wake stage in OSAS patients mean LF component was augmented (0.035 s2/Hz) comparing to healthy subjects (0.012 s2/Hz). Nonlinear indices suggest reduced HRV dynamics complexity in OSAS patients. Similar pattern could be observed when comparing LF component, CD and recurrence parameters during spontaneous breathing and in consecutive voluntary apneas. The results correlate with 20% increase in BBC vascular control type and COT inversion form +0.08 to - 0.12. Changes in BBC and COT along with power spectra and nonlinear dynamics indices appear to signal risk and/or initiation of arterial hypertension in OSAS patients.
