The aim of the study was to determine whether extracts of tobacco leaves may reduce feeding of the large pine weevils on twigs of pine – Pinus sylvestris. The research was conducted in laboratory conditions. The research proved statistically significant decrease in damage size on the pine twigs as a result of application of each tested extract.

The objective of our study was to determine and compare the neutral dietary fibre (NDF) and acid dietary fibre (ADF) contents in the pomace from the processing of two apple varieties (Idared and Champion), two strawberry varieties (Ducat and Kent), chokeberry, black currant, red cabbage, and two carrot varieties (Black carrot and Dolanka). Chokeberry pomace was found to contain the largest, and Dolanka carrot pomace the smallest amounts of NDF and ADF. The results imply that chokeberry pomace, black currant pomace and strawberry (both Ducat and Kent) pomace should be recommended as best suited for the production of high DF food components.

Brucellosis was confirmed in boars imported for breeding purposes to Poland from one of the EU countries. In serological investigations, in which the RBT, ELISA, CFT, SAT and 2-ME were used, positive reactions to brucellosis were found in 9 out of 23 animals. All the animals were slaughtered, and bacteriological examination was performed. Brucellae were isolated from the tissues of 7 boars. The characteristics of the strains isolated showed that they belonged to Brucella suis biovar 2, which is typical for Europe. The examination of animals for brucellosis at quarantine stations seems to be crucial for the protection of herds from Brucella infection.
