Three groups of carps were kept for 6 to 12 weeks at 11°C, 16°C and 23°C. A portion of the fish from each group was infected with Aeromonas hydrophila. Experimental fish were subjected to evaluation of number of thrombocytes, the index of bacteria-thrombocyte adherence (IB-TA), the percentage of active thrombocytes (%AT) and the index of thrombocyte aggregation (ITA). Carps kept at 11℃ revealed the highest values of the indices examined whereas carps kept at 23℃ the lowest ones. The indices were examined singly bcfore the bacteria administration. Fish demonstrating the lowest values of the indices were most sensitive to the infection and revealed the highest mortality rate. In contrast, fish with the highest values of the indices revealed the highest immunity. These relationships were obvious mainly at 11°C whereas at 23°C, by contrast, they were less distinct.
The studies were carried out on carps harvested from 10 various ponds in various seasons or the year. Several fish from each pond were infected with the pathogenic strain Aeromonas hydrophila and the number of diseased and dead fish and the signs or disease intensification in fish from each pond were evaluated. Other fish collected from the same ponds were subjected to number or thrombocytes, the index or bacteria-thrombocyte adherence (IB-TA), the percentage of active thrombocytes (%AT) and the index or thrombocyte aggregation (ITA) determination. The values were highest in fish harvested in January and March and lowest in fish harvested in May and July. Two populations of fish harvested in March revealed the highest sensitivities to infection whereas lowest ones were found in fish collected in July. The populations of carps harvested in January and March (pond water temperature 2 °C to 5 °C) demonstrated a correlation between the values tested and the effects of experimental infections a higher thrombocyte activity corresponded to significantly lower sensitivity to infection.
