Summary on biological control studies conducted at Ukrainian Institute of Plant Protection is presented. New biological control agents were evaluated, including entomopathogenic fungi, starting from strains selection till their practical application. Measures to increase Trichograma spp. usage efficacy were developed. Impact of chitin-synthesis-inhibitors and other biopesticides on Trichograma spp. was investigated to develop technology of their consecutive application in vegetable crops and orchards. It was observed that variety characteristics play significant role in Trichograma spp. seasonal colonization ability.
The aim of conducted research was the comparison of using full (registrated) doses of fungicides and doses indicated by decision support system (PC-Plant Protection) in protecting winter wheat against diseases. In the experiment were studied two fungicidal programs – each one in four protection strategies: in standard dates of treatments using recommended doses, in standard dates using reduced by half doses and dates indicated by decision support system in standard doses, and in dates and doses indicated by decision support system. The applied decision support system and the remaining studied programs of protection influenced statistically the increase of saved yield as compared to the control, and the effective reduction of disease occurrence (except for Septoria on leaves).
A rapid development oh plant protection methods in 1940–1950 led to a risk of massive and uncontrolled use of them. In Poland the Institute of Plant Protection – National Research Institute in Poznań established in 1957 is the main research centre for Studies on protection of agricultural crops. Considering the integrated plant protection (IPP), one of the most important elements, it is agrophages’ monitoring to determine optimal timing for performance of chemical treatments in order to reduce their numbers. decision making supportive systems and their development are of a special value for improvement for plant protection programmes. In order to ensure a proper development of agrophages’ forecasting and warning methods the following requirements should be fulfilled: – development of studies on the research bases of agrophages’ forecasting and warning systems, – expantion of the network of meteorological stations, – expantion of the Internet service – „Agrophages Warming System”, „Potato late blight”, – adapting the systems (DSS) developed in other countries to Polish conditions, – expantion of the network of Johnson’s aspirators and volumetric spore traps.
