The objective of this study was to evaluate the content of phenolic glycosides in willow bark. Salix daphnoides Vill., S. purpurea L. and S. alba L. were taken from their natural habitats. Afterwards, the ecotypes with the highest phenolic glycosides content were used in field cultivation. There was substantial evidence to indicate that violet willow contained the highest amount of phenolic glycosides. Taking into account limited number of its stands violet willow can be regarded as a good source of quality stuff while cultivating. The ecotypes of Salix daphnoides and S. purpurea were selected for the study to be used in field cultivation. As a result the concentration of salicylates was much higher than in their natural habitats.
