Pork meat (m. longissimus dorsi) was treated with high pressure of 100, 200, 300 and 400 MPa. The pressure was applied for 10 minutes at room temperature. The concentration of hydrogen ions increased by 0.2 units within the pressure range of 300 and 500 MPa. The application of 300 and 400 MPa resulted in the increase of drip loss and contributed to the decrease in free water content compared to the control sample. All tested pressures caused a decrease in added water and thermal drip. The changes of these parameters strengthened with the increase of pressure applied. Pressures between 100 and 200 MPa slightly brightened the meat color but significant changes of this parameter began at 300 MPa. The greatest increase in color brightness and the largest share of the denatured myoglobin were observed following the application of 400 MPa.
The study was conducted on podzolic soil from a field fertilised with municipal-industrial sewage sludge at the following doses – 30 (1%), 75 (2.5%), 150 (5%), 300 (10%) and 600 Mg ha⁻¹ (20%) – and then planted with basket willow (Salix viminalisL.). In the 4th, 5th and 9th years of maintaining the plantation, the following determinations were made in the soil: numbers of lipolytic bacteria and fungi, and lipase activity. It was demonstrated that in the 4th and 9th years of the study, for most of the experimental treatments, there was still continued stimulation of the growth of lipolytic bacteria and fungi in soils from the 0-20 cm layer. In that soil layer for all the years of the study there was a distinct stimulation of lipase activity. The positive effect of the sludge on the numbers and activity of the above microbial groups was also observed in soils from the 20-40 cm layer, but only for some of the experimental treatments.
The objective of the study was to compare enzymatic activities of soil microorganisms residing in the rhizosphere of selected plant species valuable for environmental protection, i.e. Sida hermaphrodita Rusby,Helianthus tuberosus, Salix viminalisandSalix americana. The results obtained revealed that the plants used in the experiment had various effects on the activityof the soil enzymes studied. The highest increase in the activity of acid phosphatase was seen in the case of Heliantus tuberosus which was also the only species stimulating the activity of dehydrogenases. The highest activity of proteases was found in the soil under Sida hermaphrodita Rusby.
The objective of the study was comparison of populations of selected physiological groups of bacteria, and determination of their enzymatic and biochemical activity in soil under a culture of spring barley after the application with effective microorganisms (EM) and without such a treatment. The application of spraying with the EM biopreparation caused an initial decrease in the numbers of most of the studied physiological groups of microorganisms and lowering of the activity of the enzymes under study, after which certain increasing trends were observed.
Constructed wetlands are eco-friendly, cost-effective technology involved in treatment of wastewaters. The goal of this study is focused on characterization of microbial community existing in a constructed wetland system planted with Cyperus alternifolius treating sewage contaminated with heavy metals. The characteristics of effluent met the standards of discharge for inland use and irrigation. Microbes in constructed wetland apparently play a pivotal role in the efficiency of system for removal of organics, nutrients, suspended solids and heavy metal. To expose the active players in the lime light, a representative soil sample from the reed bed was collected and characterized for microbial community analysis. Metagenomic studies of the bacterial and fungal flora were identified. Results revealed that the phylum Proteobacteria (38.27%) and Ascomycota (77.47%) dominated in the bacterial and fungal kingdom respectively. However, in the bacterial kingdom at species level major portion remain unclassified except Pseudomonas alcaligenes but in the fungal kingdom at species level only 3.1% remain unclassified. The role of bacteria in wastewater treatment is exemplified in previous reports but the role of fungi in the wastewater system needs exploration. However, the findings reveal that the identified microbes might have definitely played a vital role in wastewater treatment. The database available for the identification of bacterial species remain undiscovered for a major portion and requires upgradation. Next generation sequence being a high-end technology in microbial ecology decodes the entire community in environmental samples but lack of database limits the identification. Implementation of improvements in the paucity of databases is essential.
W doświadczeniu laboratoryjnym inkubowano piasek słabo gliniasty pylasty oraz glinę lekką pylastą z mocznikiem, celulozą i słomą. Równocześnie z materią organiczną wprowadzano do gleby, wyizolowane uprzednio i namnożone, różne grupy drobnoustrojów.
