To convince the followers to express the political support, the leaders apply some specific marketing strategies. In this paper I try to show, taking into account the cases of the leaders of the largest Polish cities, whether their public declarations were more symbolic (“imitating leaders’ behavior”) or more visionary (“promising that the leader can achieve the long-term goals with his/her followers”). I am focused on the three selected issues: a) the leaders’ attempts to create the community’s identity; b) the determinants of leadership efficiency (viewed by the leaders); c) the leaders’ ability to create a pattern of leadership. The main research method used in this work is the critical discourse analysis.
Subject and purpose of work: The article presents the role of social relations between organic farmers and organic farming environment (representatives of local government, non-governmental organizations) in the development of organic farming in the Świdwin County. The aim of the paper is to explore the role of local leader and social capital in the process of organic the farming development in selected geographical area. Materials and methods: The research is based on both the analysis of existing data and the results of the study (Individual In-depth Interviews - IDIs and Focus Group Interview - FGI) carried out in 2016 with organic farmers and organic farming stakeholders incl. representatives of local government and non-governmental organizations. Results: The study shows a positive correlation between high level of social capital and a strong sector of organic farming. The key significance is given to a local leader activity. Conclusions: The development of a close network of social relations between organic farmers, and between organic farmers and their environment (representatives of local government and non-governmental organizations) determines the development of a strong sector of organic farming in the area. An important condition for the organic farming development is also recognition of this type of resources by the local authorities.
In the paper, the authors have presented the results of the survey conducted on the households of the Lublin province. The number of the households that have been investigated, totals 624. On the basis of the data that was obtained, it could conclude that the rural areas in Poland have considerable potential for growth. The sense of rootedness, which is the point of departure of the local development, is fairly strong among the peasant families. Vast majority of the people living in the country expresses the will to take action in order to improve the standard of living, and is inclined to devote a great deal of their free time to achieve it. It seems that the education of the local leaders is the necessary element in the construction of the civil society. The survey shows that the inhabitants of the rural areas want to solve their problems together and upgrade the life standard, yet they virtually do not know how to do it and how to begin.
