Blood coagulation time, caoline-kephaline time, protrombine and trombine time and the concentration of fibrinogen have been determined for 34 horses with diseases of alimentary tract, founder, dermatological disturbances, acute inflammatory diseases, skin wounds, placenta retention and paralitic myopathy. It was found that in the first two cited groups of diseases blood coagulation is characterized by a disseminated intravasal coagulation (DIC). Acute inflammatory reactions primarily manifested themselves by a significant increase of fibrinogen content (more than 5.0 g/L). Significantly intensive disturbances in the blood coagulation process leading to consumptive coagulation abnormalities were noted in the paralytic myopathy. In the case of skin wounds, blood supercoagulation was observed right after any necessary surgical intervention, but during uncomplicated wound healing fibrinolytic processes dominated. Small disturbances from basal blood coagulation parameters were found in dermatologic diseases (allergic post-delivery rash, melanoma) and placenta retention.
