The aim of this article is to present the procedures and to analyze the costs of dismantling, transporting and disposing of asbestos, using the example of Kraśnik municipality located in Lublin district. The rate of disposal of asbestos was also assessed, in terms of the requirements contained in the “Program of removing asbestos and asbestos-containing products on the Polish territory”, which was elaborated in 2002. In accordance with the objectives of this program, asbestos-containing products already introduced on the market, especially construction materials, should have been recycled by the end of 2032. The studies conducted in the municipality of Kraśnik show that the pace of progress in this aspect is insuffi cient. It can be assumed that this is not an individual case and this problem concerns majority of Polish municipalities.
