A shift towards organic farming suggests amalgamation of organic resources against soil borne plant pathogens. The influence of metabolites of most ubiquitous Aspergillus spp., organic amendment extracts and their combined effect with Trichoderma virens were evaluated in vitro against Rhizoctonia solani. The minimum (36.1 mm) growth was attained by R. solani in co-culture with A. niger. The maximum (42.3 mm) inhibition of mycelial growth of the test organism was observed with culture filtrate of A. ochraceous followed by A. niger, A. fumigatus, A. flavus and A. terreus. Among organic amendment extractants, castor cake exhibited an additive effect on the growth of T. virens, however, the maximum (41.8 mm) suppressive effect on R. solani was observed with vermicompost. With the advance in time, the effect of organic amendment extracts increased markedly. Inhibition potential of culture filtrate mixturte of A. niger + T. virens and A. ochraceous + T. virens against R. solani was significantly higher in comparison to the other combinations.
In the present study the aspects of discolouration that could influence both the production and consumption of amaranth were analyzed with the objectives to identify the presence of Alternaria alternata on seeds, to analyze possible changes in the anatomy of seed tissues and to detect the presence of fungal secondary metabolites. Component plating, histopathological and mycological analyses on discoloured seeds allowed i) location of propagules of A. alternata in all seminal components; ii) observation of hypertrophies in perisperm and embryo and iii) determination of several fungal secondary metabolites, mainly high concentrations of tenuazonic acid. To our knowledge, the information presented in this paper, related to physiological, histopathological changes and fungal secondary metabolites on discoloured seeds of (Amaranthus mantegazzianus syn. A. caudatus subsp. mantegazzianus (Pass) Hanelt affected by A. alternata, is the first worldwide record.
Oznaczono zawartość patuliny w 754 próbkach soków jabłkowych zakupionych w sieci handlu detalicznego w latach 1999-2003. Analizy wykonano techniką HPLC z detektorem UV.
Mycotoxins are the secondary fungal metabolites, which cause toxic effects on human and animal organisms. They are frequent food contaminants. The most common route of exposure to mycotoxins is ingestion, but it may also involve dermal, respiratory and parenteral routes. These metabolites are produced by various fungal and mould strains like Aspergillus spp., Penicillium spp. and Fusarium spp. The most prominent mycotoxins are aflatoxins, trichothecenes, zearalenone, ochratoxins, fumonisins, patulin, citrinin, alternariol and its monomethyl ether, gliotoxin and beauvericin. There are several diseases, which are mycotoxin-related. Mycotoxins cause acute and chronic intoxications (mycotoxicoses), allergies and tumours. They may demonstrate genotoxic, mutagenic, cytotoxic, teratogenic and carcinogenic properties. Some of them cause strong estrogenic effects and infertility. The others are immunosuppressive, nephrotoxic and hepatotoxic. Taking into account wide range of mycotoxins toxic effects on living organisms, it is established that these compounds are the one of main factors influencing human and animal health.
