This paper draws from research carried out as part of the EU-funded project ‘EFORWOOD-IP: Tools for Sustainability Impact Assessment of the European Forestry-Wood Chain’. The paper reports on a literature review to develop a generic template of social and cultural values and indicators associated with forests in Europe, and research to develop ‘forest recreational use’ as an indicator to assess the social impacts of changes in forest management as part of European impact assessment procedures.

The purpose of the research was the comparison of capturing effectiveness of large pine weevils with different types of traps. The research was conducted in the forest of Oborniki forest division (RDLP Poznań). It has been shown that most large pine weevils are captured by the IBL4 type trap. The least effective trap turned out to be the trap log.

The research concerned the behaviour of a wild boar population in a large (7,500 ha) contiguous forest complex. The results obtained through telemetry include the size of home ranges, daily home ranges, and movement rates of the individuals observed. The separation of female and male home ranges was revealed. The researchers established that the wild boars were most often to be found in Scots pine stands in fresh mixed broadleaved forest habitats.
