In Polish agriculture some specific features can be distinguished that do not any langer occur in the agriculture of E. U. countries. These, for instance, include peasant mentality which appears to distrust all things which can break the peasant's harmony of life in the country. Others are: low efficiency of production, overgrowth of employment and low level of education. Last but not least is the great economic, social and educational disparity of the peasant's family.
Since many years it is observed a growing influence of the universities and other research institutions on technique and economy. The increasing importance of knowledge is activating development of new forms of cooperation between science and economy. One of these forms is academic entrepreneurship. The article presents the definition of entrepreneurship, especially academic entrepreneurship and also barriers and opportunities to the development of academic entrepreneurship in Poland.
