The paper presents an assessment of the state of water pollution of the Dzierzgoń Lake based on bacteriological indicators. Water samples were taken at two measurement points in four study periods in July and August 2011 and 2012. A total number of psychrophilic bacteria and MPN of faecal coliforms were determined. In addition, selected chemical parameters of water quality were analyzed, including total organic carbon and total nitrogen. The results were compared with those obtained by the Provincial Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in 1998 and 2004, and by Rychlik in 2009. It can be concluded that the sanitary condition of the Dzierzgoń Lake is satisfactory.
The investigation was carried out in the “Seven Islands” nature reserve. It has been discovered that in the spring, summer and autumn the number of determined pollution degree indicator bacteria (TVC 22°C and TVC 37°C) of the water of Lake Oświn ranged from tens to thousands of CFU per 1 ml, depending on the research station. The sanitary state indicator bacteria (TC, FC, FS) occurred from single cells to several hundred thousand cells per 100 ml of water. In 36.5% of the lake water samples, the FC:FS ratio was determined as higher than 4.0, but it also ranged from 0.7 to 4.0. In 18% of Lake Oświn water samples it ranged from 0.043 to 0.7, and in 9% it was lower than 0.043. This proves excretal contamination with prevailing excrements of human origin.
This paper deals with the evaluation of the sanitary state of bottom sediments of the Lower Vistula along the section from Wyszogród to Toruń. The contamination extent of bottom sediments by easily decomposable organic matter and substances of faecal origin was defined based, respectively, on the number of heterotrophic bacteria capable of growth at 22°C and the occurrence of faecal coli (FC) bacteria. Examination results enabled to classify the bottom sediments of the Lower Vistula in the studied section as little and moderately loaded with easily decomposable organic matter, as well as very little, little and moderately polluted with faeces. The highest contamination with faecal and easily decomposable organic matter was recorded in bottom sediments of the sites located in Wyszogród and Płock. Research point situated within the limnic part of the reservoir in the vicinity of Włocławek was the least contaminated site.
