Syntypes of Macvicaria pennelli (Leiper et Atkinson, 1914) and Allocreadium fowleri Leiper et Atkinson, 1914 are re-examined and a new material from the Ross Sea is described. A. fowleri is considered identical with M.pennelli in the immature stage. Digeneans occurring in the Western Antarctic regarded by various authors as M. pennelli are considered as belonging to a separate species. The name M. georgiana (Kovaljova et Gaevskaya, 1974) comb. nov. is proposed for them. The species differ in sucker ratio and arrangement of vitelline follicles between the ventral sucker and gonads. M. pennelli occurs in the sub-continental zone of the Eastern Antarctic, while M. georgiana occurs in the Western Antarctic, at South Georgia, South Orkney Islands, South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula. A key to five representatives of the genus Macvicaria reported from the Antarctic fishes is included.

The opecoelid species Macvicaria jagannathi (Gupta et Singh, 1985) Bijukumar, 1997 (new syn. Plagioporus deeghaensis Gupta et Gupta, 1988) and Neolebouria lineatus Aken’Ova et Cribb, 2001 are redescribed from Nemipterus furcosus, from the waters off New Caledonia. Provisional keys to the genera Macvicaria Gibson et Bray, 1982 and Neolebouria Gibson, 1976 are presented. The following new combinations are made: Macvicaria yamagutii (Gupta et Ahmad, 1977), M. puriensis (Gupta et Govind, 1984) and M. chilkai (Gupta et Govind, 1984).

In total, 400 bony fishes caught at a depth 120-1540 m in the east part of the Weddell Sea were examined and 63 fishes of 4 families occurring at depths of 120-590 m were infected with Macvicaria spp. Three species (185 specimens) were recognised, including two new species, M. microtestis sp. n. and M. longibursata sp. n., and one species, M. georgiana (Kovalyova et Gaevskaya, 1974), previously recorded only in the Western Antarctic. M. microtestis sp. n. occurs in nototheniids (Trematomus spp.) and artedidraconids. It has testes smaller than the ovary and which are entirely obscured by vitelline follicles dorsally. M. longibursata sp. n. occurs in two zoarcid species. It has the cirrus sac extending far posterior to the ventral sucker. M. georgiana occurs in eight species of the genus Trematomus (Nototheniidae) and in Cryodraco antarcticus (Channichthyidae); six host species are new. A key to seven species of the genus Macvicaria occurring in the Antarctic is presented.
