In order to examine the effect of the region of origin on genetic conditions of variability of quantitative traits 9 varieties of field bean originating from middle-eastern Europe /Poland, Germany, USSR/ and western Europe /Belgium, Prance, United Kingdom/ were used. The heritability coefficient H, sensu largo, was calculated for 12 traits in the 5 year period of investigations. Varieties with great stability of traits in particular years were selected. These varieties can constitute valuable genetic material for breeding new varieties with stable yield in years. The varieties originating from both the first and the second region did not differ in genetic determination of their variability. The greatest coefficients of heritability were found for plant height and thousand seed weight.
