In dogs, CCLD usually occurs after injury, but predispositions toward it increase with age. According to literature lameness related to CCLD is one of the main causes of hind leg lameness in dogs, and the main cause of osteoarthrosis in stifle joint. Currently the success rate of surgical treatment of CCLD to restore limb functions is between 85 and 95%. The aim of the study was an estimation of clinical application of polyester CCL prosthesis anchoring according to the authors’ own procedure. The operation was performed on 58 dogs of both sexes, aged 1.5-8 years. Intracapsular alloplasty of the cranial cruciate ligament was used as a reconstruction technique together with Codoloops Tricomed S.A. - Poland ligature application. Cotter was used as an anchor within the distal epiphysis of the femur and 0.8 mm spring twisted surgical wire within the proximal epiphysis of the tibia. Three tunnels were driven in bone epiphyses for prosthesis application. The authors evaluated the clinical outcome of the procedure as very good or good. From statistical analyses concerning clinical results, after 6 months from the procedure it is assumed that in 94% of the cases the clinical result of the procedure was satisfactory.
This paper describes the results of Chiari osteotomy (CO) with simultaneous intertrochanteric osteotomy (IO) in dogs affected by bilateral hip dysplasia, score grade D. The dogs classified for the study were subjected to the following tests before and after surgery: abduction-external rotation test, hip extension test, dorso-lateral subluxation test (DLST), stand test, Ortolani sign, Barlow sign, measurements of the angle of flexion, angle of extension, angle of abduction, angle of adduction, and radiographic examinations determining the score grade for canine hip dysplasia in accordance with the scoring system recommended by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. The test which most accurately reflected the post-operative improvement in patients was DLST where the negative response increased by 73% after CO and IO procedures. Changes in angle of inclination (AI) values were correlated with an improvement in hip functioning as a result of the administered treatment. The simultaneous application of CO and IO in dogs affected by hip dysplasia resulted in greater improvement of limb functioning in comparison with conventional IO.
The aim of the study was the evaluation of changes in the percentage profile of CD4+, CD8+, and CD25+ T lymphocytes, and their predictive value with respect to the course of experimental skin burns and early necrectomy in pigs. Thirty Large White Landrace pigs of both genders, weighing 50 kg (±2 kg), were used. Burns to their skin were performed with the use of a computer-controlled heating plate, applied to the animal's body and heated to 2000°C, using 2.5 kg pressure for 10 s. It produced a burn of 30% (±2%) of body surface with a range of damage between II bº and IIIº. In animals of each experimental group fascial necrectomy was performed, according to the testing module. Blood from experimental and non-treated control animals was collected from the external jugular vein before the beginning of the experiment (hour 0) and at 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120, 132, 144, 156, 168, and 180 h of the experiment. An immune response profile was evaluated using flow cytometry analysis of the level and expression dynamics of CD4+, CD8+, and CD25+ particles on the surface of T lymphocytes. The study demonstrated that experimentally-induced burns in pigs caused cell-mediated immune response reflected in the changes in the percentage of CD4+, CD8+, and CD25+ T lymphocytes, and that early necrectomy in burnt pigs acted in a protective manner for the organism, based on the immunological index values. The study also proved that the dynamics of cell- mediated immunological response intensification determined on the basis of the percentage of CD4+, CD8+, and CD25+ T lymphocytes is conditioned by the size of the burnt surface and the time of necrectomy procedure.
