Celem badań było poznanie uwarunkowań rozwoju gospodarstw zajmujących się chowem kóz. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na stan rozwoju ferm kozich, wyposażenie techniczne oraz zasoby użytków rolnych. Poznano również kierunki produkcji zwierzęcej oraz planowany przez rolników zakup zwierząt hodowlanych. Rolnicy wskazali również źródła wiedzy o prowadzonej działalności. Badania przeprowadzono w 2009 r. i wykorzystano w nich metodę wywiadu bezpośredniego oraz zastosowano kwestionariusz ankiety. Sytuacja ekonomiczna badanych gospodarstw była przeciętna. Większość badanych gospodarstw miała stabilną pozycję rynkową. Właściciele badanych gospodarstw planowali zakupić kozy, owce i inne zwierzęta w celu rozwoju produkcji. W gospodarstwach hodowano najwięcej kóz i trzody chlewnej. Wyposażenie w sprzęt mechaniczny i budynki było w opinii rolników wystarczające.
 Drugs used in chemotherapy give undesirable side effects, e.g., cardiotoxicity, leucopenia, hair loss and others. Covalent binding of a drug with a carrier may change its biodistribution, elimination and/or rate of transformation in the organism. The aim of this work was to synthesize conjugates of anticancer drug - raltitrexed (RTX) with lysozyme, bovine serum albumin (BSA), and dextran T40 and to investigate their cytotoxicity and influence on the cell cycle in comparison with the free drug. Before conjugation RTX was transformed into anhydride by treatment with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide in dimethylformamide. Activated RTX was added into aqueous solution of carriers at different pH (from 8.5 to 10.5) for 3 to 15 min. The reaction was stopped by reducing the pH to 7.0. Maximum yield of the reaction was obtained at pH 10 for BSA as well as for dextran. The highest level of substitution was obtained after 5 min of the reaction. In in vitro experiments on three cell lines: SW707, LoVo and A549, all conjugates tested had up to a few hundred times higher IC50 than the free drug. Interestingly, it was noticed that the conjugates based on dextran and albumin were more cytotoxic than the free drug in the highest concentrations tested (1000 and 10 000 ng/ml). The influence of RTX and the conjugates on SW707 cell cycle was studied. RTX blocked the cell cycle mostly in the G0-G1 and S phase and increased the percentage of apoptotic cells. Cells in the G2-M phase were not observed. The conjugates blocked the cell cycle in the S phase and decreased the percentage of cells in the G0-G1 phase.
Contemporary anthropological research confirms the fact that body composition is one of the elements differentiating athletes from persons not practising sport systematically. The differences in body composition - in many cases even extreme - also regard athletes in the context of the sports discipline they practise.The aim of the study was to determine the properties of body composition of the Polish national team pentathletes in comparison to persons of the same population not practising competitive sport.The research comprised members of the Polish national team in modern pentathlon (n=10). The subjects were 18-23 (20±1.5) years of age with their body mass from 64 to 80 kg (73.27±6.1) and body height of 172-188 cm (180.11±6.22). The athletes had had 6-13 years (10.38±2.07) of training experience. Students of Warsaw Technical University (Poland) constituted the reference group. Measurements of 20 basic somatic features were made. The following indices were calculated: leanness, Rohrer's, BMI, Manouvrier's and pelvic-shoulder. Body density, total body fat, active tissue, the general body composition profile and internal proportions of the body composition were determined. An analysis of internal proportions of the factors of athletes' body composition revealed differences in particular groups of features. The athletes' overall body size results from greater than mean values of the body height and the average ones of stoutness and the fat content.The proportions of features within the analysed factors proved a significant advantage of the upper limb over the lower one and the significant predominance of the musculature of the forearm.
Tests performed in 2013 and 2014 revealed the occurrence of three tick species parasitizing pet cats and dogs in the Wrocław Agglomeration. In total, 1,455 tick specimens were removed from 931 hosts (760 dogs and 171 cats) in 18 veterinary clinics. The dominant tick species was Ixodes ricinus (n=1272; 87.4%), followed by I. hexagonus (n=137; 9.4%) and Dermacentor reticulatus (n=46; 3.2%). Females were the most often collected development stage among I. ricinus and D. reticulatus, and nymphs among I. hexagonus. Additionally, D. reticulatus ticks (n=337) were then collected from vegetation in the Wrocław area to detect Babesia canis; however, none was found positive. Only 9.0% of dog blood samples sent to VETLAB were positive for Babesia spp. Negative results for B. canis from ticks may result from the short period of the occurrence of D. reticulatus in the Wrocław area and therefore the vectorpathogen cycle may not have been fully established at the time of the study. Nevertheless, D. reticulatus is expanding its range, and the size of its population in the Wrocław Agglomeration is increasing. The presence of the pathogenic Babesia spp. combined with the occurrence of its main vector¸ D. reticulatus, suggests that the epizootiological situation in the area can change and may pose a new veterinary problem in the future.
