The aim of this paper was to review the results of studies conducted within last years on the influence of important agronomic factors on the dry matter quality of legumes and their mixtures with grasses. There were discussed some issues related to the influence of first harvest date, harvesting frequency and nitrogen fertilization of legume/grass mixtures on the quality of plant raw material. Considering the relations between development stage, plant morphology and dry matter quality it was found an existing possibility to control the raw material quality and to estimate the dry matter feeding value of these plants with no need of carrying out the chemical analyses.
The aim of this paper is to revise the literature dealing with the studies on the value of lucerne used for grazing. The results of recent investigations on lucerne and lucerne- grass pastures are reviewed. There are discussed some issues related to lucerne breeding, especially the tolerance and grazing persistence of lucerne cultivars, suitability of the grasses and other legumes to mixtures with lucerne, grazing systems, forage quality and the incidence of bloat in ruminants. Further research on lucerne-grass mixtures should be focused on breeding of lucerne cultivars tolerant to grazing and not leading to animals' bloats, taking also into account the grazing management systems.
The results of researches conducted in the latest years on legume - grass mixtures indicate on the big importance of this fonn of forage production on the cropland. The important element of legume - grass mixtures cultivation technology is adequate choice of species and variety in respect of site and competition requirements. Yielding potential of mixture depends on productive possibilities its components and their participation in the plant association. Nitrogen fertilization and frequency of cutting or pasture utilization modify the participation of components in the yield and feeding value of dry matter.

The objective of this work was to present the importance of legume-symbiotic nitro gen fixation for sustainable agriculture. The main attention was focused on the effects of soil and weather conditions as well as on the effects of agricultural conditions on the symbiosis of legumes with root nodule bacteria. The results of the latest investigations on the inoculation methods and utilization of symbiotic nitrogen by mixture components (grasses, cereal crops) with leguminous plants were presented.
