Geothermal utilizationin in world started centuries ago, mainly for providing geothermal hot water from natural hot springs and other geothermal surface manifestations for recreation and bathing purposes. It is only in the past few decades that geothermal resources have been exploited on a comercial basis, and exploitation is still on a very limited scale compared with the geothermal potential. Interest in geothermal utilization has definitely increased in recent times due to a considerable cost escalation of conventional energy sources. This paper deals briefly with the overall potential of the geothermal resources, the enviromental aspects and ability of geothermal utilization.
