The beginnings of wooden architecture of orthodox churches in Poland are not sufficiently documented in sources. The oldest churches vanished or have been destroyed. The orthodox church at Ulucz on the banks of San River is regarded as the oldest surviving object (dated 1510). The churches of ŁEMKOWIE of Sącz, Gorlice, and Jasło regions form a separate group. Tall church towers with chambers following the style of Roman catholic churches are characteristic, although not a primary feature of this group. The orthodox churches situated far east, in the Carpathians, are of much more diversified character.
