An increased pigment content was found in flag leaves of highly fertilized oat. The irrigation and fertilization applied modified the activity of nitrate reductase, phosphatase and peroxidase in leaves. High rates of mineral fertilizers increased the content of total nitrogen and nitrates in the grain. Sprinkling decreased the amount of nitrogen in the crop but increased amino-acid content, mainly that of lysine, threonine, leucine and glutamic acid. The Rumak cultivar had by 40% more amino- acids in comparison with the giving higher yields Boruta variety. Digestibility increased in the grain of sprinkled plots, also the essential amino-acid index and limiting amino-acid index increased under the influence of watering which improved the biological value of the crop.
