The interpretation of Landsat images of the part of NE Poland (an area covered with thick layer of Quaternary deposits) was overworked. Different scale, multispectral black and white satellite photos and colour compositions in false colour was taken into account. Differenciation in vegetational cover, drainage network and terrain relief on seasonal photos were observed. The results of visual interpretation of satellite images were compared with a map of lithological and structural basement complexes (prepared on basis of bore-holes and geophysical investigations). The prevailing trends of photolineaments were found to be in good coincidence with trends shown on this map. Major features of landscape also coincide with directions traced on the crystalline basement. It is difficult to interpret satellite photolineaments as direct reflection of any concrete discontinuity in crystalline complex or overlying strata. Photogeological analysis of remote-sensed data is a new important method, supplementary to the classical ones. It should be applicated in a first stage of all geological investigations.
