Ectateus vinolasi sp. nov. and Quadrideres blaszaki sp. nov., two new Afrotropical Platynotina species are described and illustrated. The distribution map is presented.
Amathobius Gebien, 1920 (type species: Amathobius glyptopterus Koch, 1963) is revised and illustrated. The genus is a member of a monophyletic subtribe Stizopina (Tenebrionidae: Opatrini). The following new species are described: Amathobius ignatii and A. kaminskii. The genus Amathobius consists of six species distributed in Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. The identification key is provided to all known species of the genus.
Quadrideres luigii, new species from Kenya is described, illustrated and compared with their relatives. Lectotype and paralectotypes are designated for Selinus femineus Lesne, 1922.
Two new genera and two new species of trigonopoid Platynotina (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) are described from Cape Province (South Africa): Lawrenceus capensis gen. et sp. nov.; Platycharlesus gen. nov. (type species: Trigonopus morosus Mulsant et Rey, 1853); and Platycharlesus dentatus sp. nov.
A division of the group of genera of the former subfamily Opatrinae (sensu Koch 1956 and Medvedev 1968) into 2 tribes: Opatrini and Pedinini is proposed, based on the structure of male genitalia and trochanter/femur. The two tribes are members of Tenebrioninae, according to the current classification of Tenebrionidae proposed by Lawrence and Newton (1995). Structural characters of the genera of Dissonomini (Aphaleria Reitter, Dissonomus Jacquelin du Val) and Melanimini (Cheirodes Gené, Melanimon Steven, Dolamara Reichardt), and genera Edylius Champion, Stenolamus Gebien and Anophthalmolamus Ferrer make it impossible to include them in either Opatrini or Pedinini; however it is proposed to include the subtribe Eleodiina in the tribe Pedinini.
Four genera of the trigonopoid Platynotina are revised: Eviropodus Koch (type species: Trigonopus altemans Fåhraeus, 1870), Warchalowskiellus gen. nov. (type species: Trigonopus longulus Mulsant et Rey, 1853), Schelodontes Koch (type species: Trigonopus immundus Mulsant et Rey, 1853) and Zophodes Fåhraeus (type species: Zophodes tristis Fåhraeus, 1870). Five species are described: Eviropodus punctatus, Warchalowskiellus invenustus, Schelodontes dormitorius, S. marseuli and S. parvus. The following synonymies are proposed: Eviropodus funebris (Mulsant et Rey, 1853) (= Trigonopus alternans Fåhraeus, 1870), Warchalowskiellus longulus (Mulsant et Rey, 1853) (= Schelodontes exceptionalis Koch, 1956), Warchalowskiellus chevrolati (Mulsant et Rey, 1853) (= Trigonopus amplicollis Fairmaire, 1897) and Schelodontes verreauxi (Mulsant et Rey, 1853) (= Schelodontes frater Koch, 1956). Keys for species determination are provided.
The genus Phylacinus Fairmaire, 1896 (type species: Phylacinus asperipennis Fairmaire, 1896) is revised and illustrated. New species is described: Phylacinus ferreri sp. nov. Key for species determination is provided. Lectotype and paralectotype are designated for Phylacinus asperipennis Fairmaire, 1896. The genus represents of the Malagasy endemic fauna.
Four genera of the trigonopoid Platynotina are revised: Amblychirus Koch, Melanopterus Mulsant et Rey, Selinopodus Koch and Trigonopus Mulsant et Rey. Six new species to science are described: Trigonopus sigillatus, T. similis, T. danielssoni, T. signus, T. cochraneae and Amblychirus pseudobrevior. A new synonymy is proposed: Melanopterus porcus (Mulsant et Rey, 1853) (= Trigonopus exaratus Mulsant et Rey, 1853). Lectotypes are designated. The genus Melanopterus is reinterpreted. Keys for species determination are provided.
Malagasy species Clastopus aberlenci sp. nov. (female and the first-stage larva), of the melanocratoid Platynotina is described and illustrated. The diagnostic characters of the known first-stage larvae are presented. Key determination for all known species of the genus is provided.
The genus Phallocentrion Koch, 1956 (type species: Selinus edentatus Gebien, 1914) of the anchophthalmoid Platynotina is revised and illustrated. Two new species are described: Phallocentrion gussmannae and Ph. wanati. Lectotype and paralectotypes are designated for Selinus edentatus Gebien, 1914. Key for species determination is provided.
Synquadrideres gen. nov. is described from Kenya, with three known species: naivashaensis sp. nov. (type species), rnedius sp. nov. and merkli sp. nov. The genus belongs to platynotoid group of the tribe Platynotini, where is related to the genus Quadrideres Koch.
Platyburmanicus ignotus gen. et sp. nov. is described from Burma. The genus belongs to platynotoid group of the tribe Platynotini, where is related to the genera Notocorax Dejean and Opatrinus Dejean.
South African species, Crypticanus knysnaiensis sp. nov., of the trigonopoid Platynotina is described and illustrated. Melanapterus amicus Koch, 1956 is transferred to Crypticanus Fairmaire, 1897. Key determination for all known species of the genus Crypticanus Fairmaire is provided.
Pseudoblaps becvari sp. nov. from Pakistan and P. kazakhstaniensis sp. nov. from Kazakhstan are described and illustrated.
