In order to minimise the adverse effects of SO2 and SO3 on the environment, many power plants and industrial facilities use flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) scrubbers to remove SO2 and SO3 from combustion gases. The conditions within a scrubber and accompanying installations are very severe and cause corrosion problems for common engineering materials. Failures impend over the environment for lengthy periods. This paper describes recent experience with corrosion and new construction materials of full-scale wet FGD systems. Materials description includes advantages and disadvantages, application areas, testing methods and relative costs of various materials.
Safety and reliability of strategic industry and military engineering structures and devices depend on corrosion and wear protection. One of the most frequently employed techniques for reducing corrosion and wear damage is application of polymer coatings. The durability and the service life of the high-performance coating systems depend on environmental impacts and is associated with irreversible physical and chemical processes. In order to select the best individual coating system for specific environment it is helpful to know the protective characteristic of coatings. Use of the impedance spectroscopy allows to determine the range of application areas and a prognosis of the coating service life. This work shows the possibility of impedance spectroscopy for determining the protective properties of high-performance coating systems used in strategic industry and military structures and devices.
In the individual two-stage system, being ended with the slaughter and slaughter evaluation of 32 crossbred pigs, the complete mixtures with the addition of antibiotic flavomycin or probiotic (strain of Pedicoccus acidilactici bacteria MA18/5M) (during the first fattening stage) were employed. Post-mortem quantitative and qualitative bacteriological tests and quantitative mycological tests on the determination of the contents of duodenum, jejunum, ileum and large intestine were carried out. The comparable results of fattening and slaughter evaluation of pigs in the groups were obtained. After administration of probiotic, the number of acidifying bacteria was increased and that of Enterobacteriaceae family decreased. The application of biostimulator in fattening occurred to be favourable from the production point of view and seems to be an suitable alternative to feed antibiotics.
The presented studies embraced samples of wood chips from coniferous trees which contained layers of duramen, alburnum and bark. Microbiological analysis involved qualitative and quantitative determination of bacterial flora inhabiting the studied wood material. The wood chips were found to contain primarily species belonging to the genera Bacillus and Pseudomonas. The presence of the potentially pathogenic species Bacillus cereus 1, Sphingomonas paucimobilis, Aeromonas salmonicida and Chryseomonas luteola was also demonstrated.
