Diabrotica virgifera Le Conte was reported for the first time in Poland in 2005. The results of monitoring programme conducted in 2005–2009 revealed the occurrence of the pest in the south and south-eastern parts of Poland on the territory of 10 voivodeships (Podkarpackie, Lubelskie, Małopolskie, Świętokrzyskie, Mazowieckie, Łódzkie, Wielkopolskie, Śląskie, Dolnośląskie, Opolskie). In 2005–2008 the range of distribution of D. virgifera systematically increased. In 2009 the range of pest occurrence and spread did not change. So far there are no reports on economical damage and yield loses caused by the pest. Possibly the species is able to colonize the majority of the territory of Poland, and it is expected to reach north parts of the country as a result of pest’s population growth and natural migration of beetles.
