The acute toxicity test performed in mice, rats and pigs with smoke flavouring (SF) showed that DL50 of the product lies between 2420-4010 mg/kg of body weight. The product caused rather irritative action on alimentary tract, liver and kidneys (parenchymatous degeneration, inflammation). The death of animals was caused by circulatory disorders. No haematological changes in tested animals were found.
Smoke flavouring applied oraly in pigs (200-1400 mg/kg of body weight), rats and mice (0,1%, 0,5%, 1% and 2%) during 90 days caused the appearance of pathological changes in digestive tract, liver, kidneys and lungs but no deviations in haematological and biochemical indexes of blood. In rodents it increased body weight gain and feed consumption. Pathologic action of SF posesses rather irritative character.
