The Silesian Botanical Garden is being established in Mokre (near Mikołów), in an agricultural area neighbouring with Puszcza Pszczyńska Forrest and Lasy Panewnickie Forest, on the area of 700 ha, with the Fiołkowa Mount overlooking the area. The diverse geological structure of the area interconnects with the abundance o flora, which occupies aquatic, forest, meadow and rocky habitats. The vegetation consists of 650 species of vascular plants, including a plethora of rare species in terms of the Silesian Plateau. Organisational and legal actions implemented since 1996 led to establishing the botanical garden in November 1997 as a branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
