A new subgenus, Lophanthedon subg. nov., is described and figured for five species of distinctive Southeast Asian bees in the genus Chalicodonia Lepeletier de Saint Fargeau (Megachilinae: Megachilini). Two new species of the subgenus Pseudomegachile Friese from Africa, Chalicodoma (Pseudomegachile) strangei sp. nov., and C. (P.) gibbsi sp. nov., and one of the subgenus Largella Pasteels from Malaysia, C. (Largella) donbakeri sp. nov., are described and figured. The subgenus Neochalicodoma Pasteels, consisting of the two African species C. pseudolaminata Pasteels and C. pseudocincta Pasteels, is synonymized with Pseudomegachile (syn. nov.). Chalicodoma pseudocincta, is newly placed in synonymy with C. (P.) scindularia (Buysson), syn. nov. The morphological diversity of Pseudomegachile is briefly discussed in an attempt to highlight useful characters for recognizing natural species groups and inferring floral hosts. Revised diagnoses as well as information on the species composition of Largella and Pseudomegachile are provided.
The Tertiary genus Laasbium Scudder, originally described with two species and as a lineage of staphylinid beetles (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) from the Eocene-Oligocene boundary of Florissant, Colorado, is re-evaluated. Examination of the original series for Laasbium agassizii Scudder (type species) and Laasbium sectile Scudder reveal that these represent incompletely preserved earwigs (Dermaptera). The genus Laasbium is transferred to the order Dermaptera and comments provided on the classification of Florissant fossil earwigs, all previously placed in the genus Labiduromma Scudder. A lectotype is designated for Laasbium agassizii and the following six new genera erected to accommodate the diversity of Florissant fossil earwigs (authorship of all taxa is Engel and Chatzimanolis): Petrolabis (type species: Labiduromma gurneyi Brown), Litholabis (type species: Labiduromma gilberti Scudder), Rupiforficula (type species: Labiduromma scudderi Brown), Geroncolabis (type species: Labiduromma tertiaria Scudder), Spiladopygia (type species: Labiduromma exsultatum Scudder), and Paleocarcinophora (type species: Labiduromma lithophila Scudder). The following new combinations are established: Petrolabis gurneyi (Brown), Litholabis gilberti (Scudder), Rupiforficula scudderi (Brown), Rupiforficula labens (Scudder), Rupiforficula interna (Scudder). “Laasbium” sectile, a poorly-preserved lateral compression, is considered genus incertae sedis.
We describe a fossil hydrophilid beetle Anacaena paleodominica sp. nov. from the Early Miocene amber of the Dominican Republic, which is the only definitive amber inclusion of the family Hydrophilidae documented. The species belongs to the Recent Anacaena suturalis species group known from the Nearctic, Neotropical, and Australian regions. The fossil demonstrates that representatives of the species group may already have been widespread and common by the Early Miocene, and indicates a possible Miocene/post-Miocene extinction of the aquatic insect fauna on the island of Hispaniola.
The first Chinese fossil of the family Nymphidae (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontiformia) is briefly described and figured along with two episomyline Osmylidae, a generally plesiomorphic group which can be easily confused with nymphids when only wings are known. Four new species and three new genera are characterized from Jurassic deposits of the Jiulongshan Formation (Daohugou Biota), Inner Mongolia, China. New genera are Liminympha (Nymphidae), Eiwdinympha (Osmylidae), andNilionympha (Osmylidae), while the new species are Liminympha makarkini, Enodinympha translucida, Nilionympha pulchella, and N. imperfecta.
Two new species of New World halictine bees (Halictidae: Halictinae) are described and figured with extreme forms of female macrocephalism. Lasioglossum (Evylaeus) xitle sp. nov. (Halictini: Gastrohalictina) from Cráter del Xitle in Mexico City, Mexico and Augochlora (Oxystoglossella) empusa sp. nov. (Augochlorini: Augochlorina) from Madre de Dios, Peru are remarkable for not only their greatly enlarged heads and monstrously developed mandibles, but also for their pronotal modifications (both species), propodeal lamellae (A. empusa), and genal (L. xitle) and hypostomal (A. empusa) protrusions.

The enigmatic Svalbard Palaeocene fossil taxon Hymenopterites deperditus is revised, and is neither a wasp nor a plant seed, but turns out to be a bug hemelytra corresponding to the oldest described reduviid bug. It can be attributable to the “emesine−saicine clade”. The presence in the Svalbard Palaeocene of this insectivorous bug, showing possible mimicry of a wasp model, confirms the presence of diverse entomofauna and of rather warm palaeoclimatic conditions.

Termites of the family Stolotermitidae are a relict lineage of primitive Isoptera. The fossil record of Stolotermitidae is exceptionally poor, with only two Miocene (Neogene) species documented to date. Herein, a new genus and species of Paleogene termites is described and figured from the Late Oligocene (28–27 Ma, Early Chattian) of northwestern Ethiopia (Amhara Region, Chilga Woreda). Chilgatermes diamatensis gen. et sp. nov., is most similar to genera of the Stolotermitidae, Archotermopsidae, and Termopsidae but can be distinguished on the basis of forewing venational details. The genus is tentatively placed in the Stolotermitidae: Porotermitinae. Chilgatermes diamatensis is the first fossil termite from Ethiopia and, indeed, the first from the entire African continent.
