Badania przeprowadzono w latach 1994-1997 na obszarach rolniczych Pojezierza Mazurskiego. Przedmiot badań stanowiły wody ze strumieni i rowów oraz wody drenarskie. Oznaczono w nich zawartość suchej pozostałości, składników popielnych, związków azotu i fosforu oraz potas. Stwierdzono, że głównymi czynnikami kształtującymi wielkość wymycia poszczególnych substancji i skład chemiczny wód odpływających z gleb obszarów rolniczych w warunkach naturalnych były uziarnienie gleby i ilość opadów atmosferycznych, natomiast w antropogenicznych rodzaj sieci melioracyjnej i intensywność agrotechniki. W zależności od badanych czynników wielkość odpływu poszczególnych składników w badanych wodach ulegała znacznym zmianom i wahała się, w przypadku suchej pozostałości 16-1288, popiołu 95-933, N-NH₄ 0,07-6,70, N-NO₃ 0,07-18,16, N-NO₂ 0,001- 0,031, P ogólnego 0,03-0,49, P-PO₄ 0,02-0,33, K 0,71-25,80 kg·ha⁻¹·rok⁻¹. Wykazano, że drenowanie gleb lekkich oraz wyższa intensywność agrotechniki, w znaczącym stopniu zwiększały wymycie z nich związków organicznych i mineralnych.
