A herd of bulls, mainly Black and White, from 200 to 400 kilograms of body weight, was used in the experiment. There were 376 bulls at the beginning of pasture season, and 248 at the end. From May 2 to September 30 the bulls spent all the time on pasture and were fed by grazing only. Grazing behaviour of the animals was observed and body weight gains were measured. The results show that, in spite of the traditional view, it is possible to fatten a large group of bulls on pasture with daily gains of about 600 g. Grazing time varied from 5 hrs 25 min to 6 hrs 31 min, depending on the amount of grass available; resting time varied from 9 hrs 14 min to 10 hrs 8 min.
