The aim of the present research carried out in the vicinity of Bydgoszcz (the Kujawy and Pomorze Province) was to investigate whether the cultivation system affects the qualitative and quantitative composition of Carabidae. The catches were performed staring from the first decade of May to the first decade of August, over 2008–2009, on the plantations of winter triticale grown in two systems, organic and traditional. Over the two‐year research period 4716 beetles were caught from the Carabidae family. The beetles represents 21 genera, of which 2892 individuals – on the organic farm and 1824 – on the traditional farm. The eudominants were represented by the following genera: Harpalus spp., Poecilus spp., Pterostichus spp., Calathus spp. The least abundant were the species of the genera of Notiophilus spp., Dyschirius spp., Broscus spp., Bradycellus spp., Badister spp., Platynus spp. and Zabrus spp.
The aim of the present research carried out in the vicinity of Bydgoszcz city (Kujawsko-Pomorskie) was to investigate whether the farming system affects the qualitative and quantitative composition of Coccinellidae predators. The catches made with sweep nets were performed starting from the first decade of May to the second decade of July, in 2008–2009, on winter triticale plantations in two farming systems: organic and traditional. Throughout the two-year research period 235 predator ladybird beetles were caught, representing 9 species. The calculated lower mean values of Simpson index and higher values of the Shannon-Wiener index, indicated a greater species variation within Coccinellidae on the organic farm comparing to the traditional farm.
The aim of the presented research was to determine how water extracts obtained from Medicago sativa herbage, Carum carvi fruits, Glycine max seeds, Phaseolus vulgaris pericarp and Morus alba leaves affect grain weevil (Sitophilus granarius L.) beetles. It was found that the plant water extracts tested demonstrated a varied effect on grain weevil beetles. The strongest repellent effect, in place throughout the observation period, was reported for soybean extract. A similar repellent activity yet increasing with time, was reported in the case of white mulberry extract. The weakest effect was recorded for alfalfa herbage extract.
The guilds of primary parasitoids (Ichneumonoidea: Aphidiidae, Chalcidoidea: Aphelinidae) as well as hyperparasitoids (Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae, Encyrtidae, Eulophidae; Cynipoidea: Charipidae: Alloxystinae, Ceraphronoidea: Megaspilidae) of the two aphid species (Homoptera: Aphididae): Aphis fabae SCOP. on spindle tree and Aphis sambuci L. on common elder in midfield thickets are presented. A role of the midfield thickets, especially of the habitat and the aphid host plants as reservoirs of the parasitoids is discussed.
One of the assumptions of the organic farming system is the protection of biodiversity and the use of natural processes which occur in nature in crop protection. Organic farming is to create favourable conditions for the occurrence of beneficial organisms limiting the abundance of agrophages, in agrocenoses. The aim of this paper was to determine to what extent both farming systems affect relationships between aphids and their natural enemies, parasitic Hymenoptera.
In 1997 and 1998, insects settling cultures of goats rue (Galega orientalis Lam.) at Mochełek were caught. Amongst ground beetles the dominating species were: Pterostichus melanarius III., Carabus auratus L., Harpalus rufipes De Geer, Harpalus aeneus F., and Bembidion lampros Hbst. and Harpalus frolichi Sturm. were subdominants.
