Aculops fuchsiae is an eriophyoid mite species that originates from the South America (Brazil). In 1981 it was found in the San Francisco area of California (USA), but spread quickly within California. It is an EU quarantine pest. In 2002 A. fuchsiae was found for the first time in Europe (France) at the Festival de Trévare flower exhibition in Brittany. In 2006 it was reported from the Channel Islands (Guersney and Jersey) (2006) and in 2007 it was found in England. A. fuchsiae is recognized as a major pest of Fuchsia spp. Heavily infested plants are unsightly, flower production is often suppressed and are therefore of no commercial value. A. fuchsiae could be introduced to Poland on imported fuchsia plants. In Poland, A. fuchsiae is only likely to be a problem on s fuchsias grown in protected environments e.g. .under glasshouse conditions.
