Two series of feeding experiments were carried out on dairy cows in specialized private farms of the Kraków province and additionally physiological studies were conducted in the Agricultural Experimental Station Okocim. The productive value of the most commonly used diets with a properly balanced mineral content and protein: energy ratio was determined. It was found that the best production effects in cows can be obtained with diets composed of clover hay + grass (35% of energy value), corn silage and fodder beets (20% of diet energy value each) and concentrates in the form of ground grain and mixture B, accounting for 25% of diet energy value. It was found too, that an introduction of 2 kg of concentrates into diet in the final stage of the drying period has a beneficial effect on milk yield in the subsequent lactation.
