Samples of collected milk supplied to 10 milk purchase centers by 371 individual farmers were examined. The samples were collected during March-April of 1994 directly from cans into sterile containers. The following parameters were tested: milk temperature, number of somatic cells (Whiteside test), acidity (°SH), reductive activity of bacteria (resazurine test), total number of bacteria ^nd presence of inhibitory substances. The temperature of 70.9% of the supplied milk samples was above 10°C. Whiteside test with 79.2% of the samples was negative, with 16.7% doubtful and with 4.1% positive. Acidity of 50% of milk samples was higher than 7.5 and lower than 6.0°SH. On the basis of the results of the reductase test, 48.2% of milk samples could not be classified. The number of bacteria below 500 000 was noted only in milk from 25.3% of the farmers. Inhibitory substances were found in 17% of the milk samples.
