The early development of the exoskeleton of the hermatypic scleractinian coral Porites lutea has been established by scanning electron microscopy for 1 hour to 21 day old corallites. The initial deposits are dispersed small grain-like crystallites of calcium carbonate up to 6 µm in length and 0.5 to 3 µm in maximum width. These crystallites enlarge by syntaxial growth and in addition new ones may be nucleated on their surfaces to produce rosette-like aggregations. After 6 hours these aggregates fuse laterally to form the primary layer of the basal plate. At this stage the initial tufts of crystallites of the septal trabeculae are deposited in radial rows on the primary layer of the basal plate. In 24 hour old corallites the trabeculae are well developed and traces of 1, 2 or 3 orders of septa can be recognized. Subsequently (1-7 days), the trabeculae coalesce generating the radially arranged, septa and the secondary layer of the basal plate is deposited in the interseptal areas. With further growth some trabeculae diverge laterally from the median plane of the septum to produce vepreculae which may fuse with those of adjacent septa to form synapticulae. After several orders of septa have been established, the basal plate may develop a peripheral epitheca.

Two new species of Bryozoa Cheilostomata, considered representatives of the two new genera, Xaveropora n.gen. and Christinella n.gen., are described from the clayey and sandy deposits of the Tortonian of Poland. Xaveropora ojcowensis n.sp, is marked by ovicells situated in front of the orifice; this type of an ovicell has been called by the author a prostomial ovicell. Christinella pulchra n.sp, is distinguished by its endozooecial ovicells which, with time, grow and completely cover the opesia.

Oeufs fossiles des cephalopodes?

75%
Ammonites of the family Perisphinctidae from the Middle Oxfordian of Zawodzie (Częstochowa) have be en elaborated. Within the genus Lithacoceras, the new subgenus Subdiscosphinctes is distinguished. Included in this subgenus are somen of the species hitherto assigned to the subgenus Discosphinctes; such are: L.(S.) mindowe (Siemiradzki) and L.(S.) kreutzi (Siemiradzki). Are also described five new species: Perisphinctes (Perisphinctes) alatiformis n.sp., P.(P.) enayi n.sp., P.(P.) multicostatus n.sp., P.(P.) swidzinskii n.sp, and Lithacoceras (Subdiscosphinctes) borealen n.sp. The directions of their migration and their palaeobiogeographical relationshipsn have been elucidated.

Sur certains fossiles Ordoviciens a test organique

75%
Amphiastraeina are connected with their presumed ancestors, Permian Polycoeliidae, by a transitional link - Triassic corals of the family Pachythecalidae Cuif, 1975. During the early Jurassic they differendiated into a few phylogenetic lines and developed certain structural patterns of corallites homeomorphic with those of Rugosa, which had not been, however, recognized in their ancestral group (lonsdaleoid septa/dissepiments, gemmation). Four families are recognized: Amphiastraeidae Ogilvie, Donacosmiliidae Krasnov emend. Roniewicz, Carolastraeidae Eliášová, and Intersmiliidae Melnikova & Roniewicz, fam.n. The earliest Amphiastraeina are described from the ?Hettangian-Sinemurian through the Bajocian and the Callovian of South-East Pamir. One new genus, Prodonacosmilia Melnikova is distinguished.

The polychaete jaw apparatus Sciotoprion klondikensis gen. n., sp. n., family uncertain, was discovered among a number of apparatuses and isolated scolecodonts recovered from Eifelian limestone of the Columbus Formation in Delaware County, Ohio. No scolecodonts identifiable with the distinctive components of this apparatus have been previously described, suggesting that the new species either has a short geologic time-range, or is facies-dependent; it may prove of geologic value in either correlation or environmental reconstruction.
The sicula of Kozlowskitubus erraticus has been examined with TEM. The upper portion ot prosicula is three-layered, the middle layer being a mesh. Its bottom consists of an attenuated, almost structureless membrane. The metasicula is made of strongly variable fuselli, built of fusellar and sheet tabric only (Dictyonema type ot fuselli). The evidence available indicates that mesh fabric is the main component in all discophorous and in part ot nematophorous prosiculae (structural type "A"). Only some nematophorous prosiculae are lacking the mesh component and therefore constitute structural type "B". The striking similarity ot the sicula described with the embryonal vesicle ot Rhabdopleura may not be evaluated until more becomes known on latter's ultrastructure.
The genus Mongolichara is emended, the type species is changed and some species are excluded from the genus. The diagnosis of the genus and type species are given, the species included in the genus Mongolichara are illustrated.

Some aspects of coloniality in corals

75%
Blastogeny in Anthozoa was compared to the parallel process in Hydrozoa with a brief discussion on the cells reorganization and genetic control of the process. Discussion on astogeny was restricted to fusion of corallites and colonies with some attention being paid to the regeneration within colonies. Four types of fusion were discussed: 1. fusion within coenenchymal colonies, regarded as a self-regulation. 2, 3. fusion within fasciculate colonies and fusion of solitary corals, interpreted as being connected with a reproductive cells exchange; 4. fusion of coenenchymal colonies, thought to be a sample of interspecific aggression. Formation of gregaria was briefly discussed as a phenomenon similar to coloniality.

Synthesis of information presently available on the makeup of Lower Cambrian bioherms indicates a gradual transition in their composition through time. The oldest bioherms (Lower Tommotian of the Siberian Platform) are mounds composed of lime mud and calcareous algae (Epiphyton and Renalcis) with archaeocyaths most common in the surrounding sediments. This trend continues throughout most of early Lower Cambrian time. In the middle part of the Lower Cambrian, archaeocyaths become an important part of the bioherm biota. By late Lower Cambrian time, as much as 50% of the limestone in bioherms is composed of archaeocyath skeletons and the structures illustrate the same sedimentological and ecological attributes as skeletal metazoan reefs later in the Phanerozoic.
Skull and lower jaw of Late Cretaceous (?middle Campanian) eutherian zalambdalestid genus Barunlestes from the Gobi Desert in Mongolia is described and figured. It is characterized by: maxilla extending backwards along the choanae, the presphenoid with a prominent median process, very large pterygoid process of basisphenoid, a fissura Glaseri, postglenoid process extending only opposite the medial part of glenoid fossa, large promontorium, foramen arteriae stapediae, sulcus arteriae stapediae, no sulcus arteriae promontorii. Large promontoria and large olfactory bulbs indicate strong development of auditory and olfactory senses in Barunlestes. Basicranial structure of Barunlestes supports Presley's (1979) idea that the primitive mammalian morphotype with two vessels (medial internal carotid and promontory), should be revised.
When describing fossil reef facies, one often speaks of coral communities when several species are found in the same layer. The term "organism community" is of a very general nature and embraces co-incidental or necessary, permanent or temporary associations of organisms. Lately it is being linked to paleoecological statements more often (Paporte 1977), which gives it a sociological and ecological meaning. This is theoretically justified, because only differentiated ecological factors lead to typical coral communities being formed. However, such coral communities are not co-incidental, but regulated by certain laws of environmental conditions, they are not temporary, but permanent phenomena; particularly when environmental conditions are reconstructable and used for a description of the habitats, does it appear advisable to use the well-defined term "association".
The systematics of Triassic corals based on morphological characters (Alloiteau 1952, Wells 1956) has been examined. It has been shown that microstructural characters are more valuable than morphological ones as systematic criteria for scleractinian corals. An outline of Triassic coral evolution has been presented and the premises, on which the classic concept of independent rugosan and scleractinian phylogenies is based, are refuted.
