There was described the first case of feline infectious peritonitis in Poland. Diagnosis was made on the basis of fibroascites, peritonitis, necrotic foci and inflammatory granulomas in internal organs. Direct and indirect immunofluorescent tests play a significant role making possible to reveal specific antibodies against FIP virus. The level of antibodies should, however, be evaluated in the contex of clinical course of the disease.
Current methods used for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary diseases require detailed knowledge of the morphology of cardiac vessels, including the clinical aspects of the subepicardial cardiac veins. The study was conducted on 50 corpses of adult domestic shorthair cats of both sexes (24 ♂, 26 ♀), having an average body weight of 4.15 kg and aged from 2 to 10 years. A clear view of subepicardial cardiac veins was obtained by filling them with dyed synthetic latex (LBS 3060). The next stage of the study consisted in a detailed preparation of the main trunks with the use of a Global surgical microscope. It was found that the veins that drained the heart were the great cardiac vein, the middle cardiac vein, and the right cardiac veins. The course, main branches, and termination of the cardiac veins were determined. In view of the clinical importance of these cardiac vessels and their branches, universal nomenclature was suggested.
The article presents a case of pituitary adenocarcinoma in a twelve-year old female European cat. This tumor derived from secretary cells of the distalis region of the pituitary gland. Large multiple neoplasm cells were divided by a band of connective tissue. Neoplasm-areas of typical solidum constitution were also observed. Neoplastic cells have various shapes and sizes, pycnotic, round and oval nucleus with one or two peripheral located nucleoli and have dispersed, granular cytoplasm staining with eosin. The neoplasm was characterized by a high mitotic activity and multiple mitotic figures. The pituitary adenocarcinoma spread to intra-cerebella metastases.
Discoloration of the feline iris belongs to the group of anomalies of various etiologies. In diagnosis, nevus pigmentosus, hyperpigmentation, heterochromia iridis and neoplasms have to be considered. Uveal neoplasms include diffuse iris melanoma (DIM) and primary iris and ciliary body melanoma as solid tumors. The paper presents a case of an 11-year-old male Persian cat with histologically diagnosed iris and ciliary body epithelial melanoma. The treatment of choice was enucleation. The morphologically and histologically described melanoma comprised characteristics of both uveal melanoma. The tumor consisted of anaplastic, round, hypopigmented cells with pleomorphic nuclei and prominent nucleoli and balloon-cells with hollow-spheres surrounding nuclei. No spindle-like melanocytes typical for eye primary melanoma were observed. The tumor caused a narrowing filtration angle and secondary glaucoma as well as wide choroid infiltration towards optic nerve papilla and retinal detachment. In the described case no metastasis or local recidivation was discerned.
