A Scots pine forest, affected by the great cormorant colony, was studied by plot-based fungal survey method during the years 2010-2012 in Lithuania. Diversity and composition of fungal communities were investigated at five zones that had been influenced by different stages of breeding colony establishment: starting-point and almost abandoned cormorant colony part (zones A and B), active part (zones C and D), and the edge of the colony (zone E). The control zone G in undamaged by cormorants pine stand was assessed too. A total of 257 fungal species of ascomycetes including anamorphic fungi, basidiomycetes and zygomycetes were recorded. Seven species were registered for the first time in Lithuania. Species richness in the examined zones varied, lowest being in zones B (51 species), C (46) and D (73) and almost twice as high in the zones A and E (129 and 120, respectively). The comparison of fungal species compositions of different zones showed that their similarity was rather low (SS: 0.22–0.59). The most obvious changes in the trophic structure of fungal communities in the territory occupied by the bird colony were a strong decrease of mycorrhizal species, the presence of coprophilous fungi on forest litter, and the appearance of host-specialized fungi on alien and non-forest plants that have established in the disturbed forest.
The list of freshwater gastropods of Bulgaria, with data on their distribution, ecology and conservation status, was based on a critical overview of all available sources and unpublished materials. The total number of freshwater snail species hitherto recorded from Bulgaria is 120. Three species are regarded as extinct, two species were found only as subfossil remains. The most diverse families are Hydrobiidae (67 species), Planorbidae (15), and Lymnaeidae (11). The remaining families are represented by 1 to 4 species. Zoogeographical, ecological and conservation data are discussed.
This is the second paper of a series dealing with the Chinese fauna of the large genus Pselaphodes Westwood, 1870. Twelve new species and a new synonym are presented: P. bomiensis sp. nov. (Xizang); P. biwenxuani sp. nov. (Xizang); P. condylus sp. nov. (Guizhou); P. cuonaus sp. nov. (Xizang); P. fengtingae sp. nov. (Zhejiang); P.gongshanensis sp. nov. (Yunnan); P. hamniensis sp. nov. (Xizang); P. jizushanus sp. nov. (Yunnan); P. meniscus sp. nov. (Sichuan); P. parvus sp. nov. (Guizhou); P.pectinatus sp. nov. (Hainan);P. wuyinus Yin et al., 2010 syn. nov. = P. tianmuensis Yin et al., 2010; and P. yanbini sp. nov. (Guizhou). New distributional data and discussion on intraspecific variations of P. tianmuensis and P. aculeus are provided. An updated key is given to assist in distinguishing all so far known Chinese species of Pselaphodes. A checklist of world species of Pselaphodes is also provided.
An annotated checklist of wild fungi living in Cyprus Island has been compiled broughting together all the information collected from the different works dealing with fungi in this area throughout the three centuries of mycology in Cyprus. This part contains 363 taxa of macroscopic Basidiomycota.
A checklist of the parasitic Cymothoidae of Indian fishes was compiled from parasitological records published between 1783 and 2011. The checklist is arranged alphabetically, providing valid names, synonyms and authorities of the parasite species, as well as valid names and synonyms of the host fish, its capture sites, author(s) and date of published records. The host list consists of all parasites species listed under the host species. A total of 47 nominal species corresponding to 36 valid species are listed from 74 host species belonging to 34 families. Several parasites not identified to species level and parasite species without the host data or where the parasite was found not associated with a fish are also included in this checklist.
A total of 19 helminth species (1 trematode, 11 cestodes, 7 nematodes) were collected from 45 vagrant shrews, Sorex vagrans (Mammalia, Soricidae), in western Montana, USA. One trematode (Brachylaima sp.), 2 cestodes (Paruterina candelabraria, Staphylocystoides longi), and 6 nematodes (Baruscapillaria rauschi, Eucoleus oesophagicola, Longistriata meylani, Paracrenosoma sp., Parastrongyloides winchesi, Pseudophysaloptera formosana) are reported for the first time from this host. Baruscapillaria rauschi n. comb. is proposed for Capillaria rauschi Read, 1949. This is the first record of merocercoids of P. candelabraria from a shrew, and the first report of the genus Paracrenosoma in North America.
