In the article the survey of data on morphology and ultrastructure of flagellates of the order Trichomonadida is given with special attention paid to Monocercomonadidae and Trichomonadidae. The evolution within these flagellates is considered as a series of changes leading to formation of undulating membrane and reinforcement of the cytoskelet. In both families other two evolutionary tendencies may be also observed: reduction of the flagellar apparatus (in Monocercomonadidae) and enlargement of the number of free flagella (in both families).
Twelve species of the genus Discocydina Gümbel, 1868 from a series of dolomitic sandstones and siltstones are described, along with Upper Lutetian and Lower Bartonian organodetrital limestones from the area of Mt. Hruby Regiel in the Tatra Mts. The mode of life and environment of discocyclines are dealt with and burrows of crabs encased by tests of discocyclines described.
Benthic and planktonic foraminifers of the hypostratotype of the Paleocene (El Haria Fm., El Kef section, northern Tunisia) are discussed and described. The foraminifers identified have made it possible to distinguish 8 planktonic foraminiferal biozones with 5 subzones within the hypostratotype and to correlate them with their stratigraphic equivalents from Tethyan and epicontinental regions. The hypostratotypes of the Danian, Montian and Landenian are proposed and defined. The hypostratotype of the Paleocene sensu stricto is proposed as the stratotype of marine Paleocene section of the Tethyan region.
The taxonomic status of Rotalipora turonica Brotzen, type species of the genus Rotalipora, is discussed. Figure 11-4 of Brotzen is selected as a lectotype for Rotalipora turonica. Rotalipora is restricted to include only forms with secondary apertures on the umbilical side and a well-developed keel.
Opisano dwa gatunki małych promienistych numulitów, Nummulites orbignyi (Galeotti) i Nummulites concinnus Jarzeva, z górno eoceńskich piasków glaukonitowych północno-zachodniej Polski. Zrewidowano dotychczasowe poglądy na temat występowania numulitów na Niżu Polskim, oraz przeprowadzono próbę korelacji występowania tych numulitów z obszarem północno-zachodniej Europy i Ukrainy.
In the light of ambiguities in interpretation of some genera of Miliolidae by various authors a precise definition of Ophthalmidium Kübler & Zwingli, 1870, and Palaeomiliolina Loeblich & Tappan, 1964 is given on the basis of Jurassic materials from Poland, other countries and literature. Structure of tests and microstructure of walls were investigated. Enlarged photographs in polarized light are presented. Close affinity was stated of the genera in question and both were assigned to one family. A stratigraphic table of species noted from the Triassic and Jurassic is presented and their generic affiliation corrected.
Descriptions of 49 benthic foraminiferal species (including three new species: Elphidium halickii, E. hyalinum and Protelphidium rozkowskae), belonging to 16 genera found in the Pleistocene of the Lower Vistula River area are given. Neither planktonic nor agglutinated foraminifers are represented here. Three assemblages are distinguished: warm-water foraminifer assemblage with contribution of Lusitanian species, found at Brachlewo and related to the Eemian Interglacial, boreal assemblage with contribution of both Lusitanian and Arctic species, found at Elblag, and Arctic assemblage from Nadbrzeże. Foraminiferal fauna from Nadbrzeże shows cyclic alternation of cold-water and warmer-water assemblages corresponding to changes in pollen-spectra. According to pollen analysis, deposits of the Eemian, Amersfoort and Brørup Interglacials are represented at Nadbrzeże.
The occurrence of a sandstone horizon abounding in tubes of Bathysiphon Sars has been discovered ni the Eocene of the environs of Gródek on the Dunajec. A new species B. inconstans is here described, along with studies on the structure and occurrence of, as well as deformations underwent by its tubes in the process of flysch sedimentation. Since the writer considers them to be the tubes of the Annelida and not the tests of the foraminifers, he thus questions the so far accepted view on the systematic positions of the bathysiphons.
