In view of new civilizational challenges of the 21st century, health promotion and education encouraging active participation in physical recreation, which should be implemented at all levels of education, within family, peer environment and local environment, become issues of particular importance. The research was carried out in the summer of 2013 and included 572 students of John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska (PSW), of such degree courses as Tourism and Recreation, Public Health, Nursing, Rescue Medicine and Computer Science. The method used in the research was a diagnostic survey based on International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The aim of the study was to get to know the differentiation between the forms of recreational physical activity taken up and expected by the students of PWS and their gender, BMI and self-assessment of physical fitness. Basing on the results of the analysis it was concluded that the abovementioned independent variables have significant impact on the forms of physical activity chosen and expected by the surveyed. Studies of the literature on the subject and the results of our previous research entitle us to conclude that university students, who in the near future will constitute the intellectual elite of the country, should be aware of the influence of physical activity on general health, the importance of healthy lifestyle and their role in promoting healthy attitudes. However, the research showed that the students are not ready to perform such tasks, therefore the actions preparing them to lead a healthy lifestyle need to be intensified.
The most accessible and especially valuable for energy sector type of biomass is wood, its post-production residue as well as fuels based on wooden residue. One such fuel with the best prospects for further development is wooden pellet which due to its high stability and homogeneity guarantees the highest energy concentration per unit as well as the possibility for fully automated burning process. The aim of the article was researching the influence of selected factors on the increase in value of various types of wooden residue when processed into pellet. The research took into account the following variables determining this value: raw material intensity ratio depending on the type of material being used, sales price of a single unit of finished product, margin envisioned by the producer, production cost of wooden fuel and the cost of transport considered only in the situation when there is a need for purchasing raw material.
We observed 75 Aberdeen Angus calves born in the years 2004–2007 and managed on pastures and wild areas of Karsibór, an island located in the northern part of the Szczecin Lagoon. An analysis was carried out on the results of maternal nursing of the calves in relation to subsequent calving, sex of the calf, and year of rearing.Asignificant (P≤0.01, P≤0.05) effect of subsequent calving on body weight of the calves being born was observed. The calves from the first calvings had significantly lower body weight at birth as compared to those born from the subsequent calving. On the other hand, there were no significant effects of the subsequent calving on body weight and daily weight gain of calves after weaning, even though the calves from the first calving were characterized by poorer performance in this respect. Significant differences between the data on calf nursing performance recorded in each individual year of the study result from the fact that the animals grazed on poorer quality pastures and unused land.

This manuscript presents results of authors` research regarding selected factors influencing sensory pork quality. In the manuscript the role of breed, genes (RYR1T, RN-, CAST), slaughter weight as well as meatiness is comprised. Additionally, the role of intramuscular fat, ultimate pH and heat treatment on pork quality is discussed. It was stated that the optimization of the sensory aspects of the pork quality should not be limited to one aspect only but it should include the practical use of a number of dependent determinants. Obtaining high eating quality depends also on the quality of the raw material and the way of thermal processes (temperature, time, method of thermal process).
The aim of presented study was to estimate the influence of calving season, cow body weight, calf body weight at birth on body weights and daily gains of large calibre beef breeds calves, i.e. Charolaise and Simmental. Estimations were made of the effect on the body weight and daily body gain of calves of the following factors: cow genotype (purebred Charolaise or Simmental, 50% of Charolaise or Simmental genes), calving season (summer feeding: May-October, winter feeding: November-April), cow body weight (£550 kg, >550 kg), calf body weight at birth (£35 kg, >35 kg). The dam genotype had highly significant influence on calf body weight at birth. Pure-bred Charolaise cows delivered calves over 6 kg heavier than calves from Simmental ones. Mothers with 50% of Charolaise blood ratio delivered calves of higher by about 2 kg body weight than cows with 50% of Simmental blood share.
