This paper contains an analysis of premises and trends in development of potato market. Desirable directions of transformation in this branch of agriculture, which aim to increase its competitiveness, should drive at reconstruction and development of markets, create base and market institutions, vertical and horizontal integration, reduce the dispersion of potato supply. The creation of market structures is a difficult undertaking, hence the well co-ordinated co-operation of the government regulation, producers' representations and business organisations, also extension service and education, are necessary.
