This paper presents research findings on investigating the factors affecting market value of agricultural land in Hungary by empirical data collection and applying regression analysis.
The aim of the study is to present the diversity of return on sales, assets and equity of the wood industry enterprises in Poland in the years 2006-2012 and to identify the strength and direction of the influence of selected factors affecting the variability of return on equity. It has been found in the deterministic and stochastic analysis that changes in the level of return on equity in the wood industry were driven primarily by changes in return on sales, while to a lesser extent they resulted from changes in the asset turnover and financial leverage.

The aim of the paper was to confirm the proposition that the classical SST algorithms MCSST and NLSST originally prepared for AVHRR data could also be used for Meteosat/SEVIRI data with satisfactory accuracy in the mid-latitude region, where the spatial resolution is about 7×7 km. The research was performed in the southern Baltic Sea (between 13◦E 53◦N and 21◦E 58◦N). Data were collected in all the seasons of 2007. The coefficients were found by means of regression analysis. SSTs determined on the basis of AVHRR data were used in the regression analysis instead of in situ data. A set of paired AVHRR and SEVIRI images spaced no more than 8 minutes apart were compared. The results show that the method is capable of producing sea surface temperatures with a statistical error (standard deviation) of 1◦C.
The rate of growth of the pulmonary trunk during gestation has not been sufficiently determined. The present study was performed on 128 spontaneously aborted human foetuses aged 15–34 weeks in order to compile normative data for pulmonary trunk dimensions at various gestational ages. With the use of anatomical dissection, digital-image analysis (the Leica QWin Pro 16 system) and statistical analysis (ANOVA, regression analysis) a range of measurements (length, diameter and volume) was analysed for the pulmonary trunk during gestation. No significant gender differences were found (p > 0.05). Growth curves were generated of the best fit for the plot for each morphometric feature against gestational age. The results obtained show a statistically significant correlation (p < 0.001) between the parameters examined and gestational age. Both the length and diameter of the pulmonary trunk were found to increase in a linear fashion throughout gestation. The length ranged from 3.17 ± 0.36 mm to 13.54 ± 1.39 mm, according to the linear function y = –5.6035 + 0.5705 x ± 0.9171 (r = 0.96). The diameter ranged from 1.51 ± 0.24 mm to 5.30 ± 1.53 mm, according to the linear model y = –1.4813 + 0.2154 x ± 0.7452 (r = 0.86). The pulmonary trunk volume ranged from 5.94 ± 2.21 mm³ to 312.37 ± 154.34 mm³, according to the quadratic function y = 143.2 – 20.961 x + 0.791 x2 ± 63.306 (R² = 0.74). The growth curves generated from my data may be useful as a reference for foetal echocardiographers in the detection of congenital cardiovascular abnormalities.
The present study was performed on 128 spontaneously aborted human foetuses aged 15–34 weeks in order to establish normal values for thoracic aorta dimensions at various gestational ages. Using anatomical dissection, digital-image analysis (the Leica QWin Pro 16 system) and statistical analysis (ANOVA, regression analysis) the growth of the length, the original and terminal external diameters and the volume of the thoracic aorta during gestation was examined. No significant gender differences were found (p > 0.05). The growth curves were generated of the best fit for the plot for each morphometric feature against gestational age. Both the length and external diameters of the thoracic aorta increased in proportion to the advance in foetal age. The length ranged from 12.49 ± 1.85 mm to 48.82 ± 6.31 mm according to the linear function y = –19.654 + 2.0512 x ± 3.5168. The original external diameter ranged from 1.25 ± 0.28 mm to 5.65 ± 0.48 mm according to the linear fashion y = –2.3834 + 0.2367 x ± 0.3850. The terminal external diameter ranged from 1.15 ± 0.26 mm to 5.18 ± 0.45 mm, in agreement with the linear model y = –2.1438 + 0.2156 x ± 0.3555 (r = 0.96, p < 0.001 for each feature). The volume of the thoracic aorta ranged from 15.75 ± 8.06 mm³ to 1158.01 ± 301.85 mm³ according to the quadratic function y = 1376.2 – 154.42 x + 4.419 x² ± 125.6 (R² = 0.90). The growth curves generated from my data may be useful as a reference for foetal echocardiographers, who must distinguish abnormal from normal foetal development.
In prenatal and pediatric cardiovascular surgery knowledge of the various arrangements of the aortic arch and its branches as well as the normative data are essential. The variability and morphometric features of the brachiocephalic trunk in 131 human foetuses (65 male, 66 female) ranging from 15 to 34 weeks of gestation were studied by means of anatomical, digital and statistical methods. In all the foetuses examined the left aortic arches were found to have three different arrangements. In 74.05% of cases the usual pattern of the aortic arch with its three main branches were observed. A common origin of the brachiocephalic trunk and left common carotid artery occurred in 20.61% of individuals. In 5.34% of cases the left vertebral artery was an additional vessel and arose from the aortic arch between the left common carotid and subclavian arteries. No significant gender differences were found with respect to the brachiocephalic trunk (p ≥ 0.05). The developmental increase in length (r₁ = 0.78) and diameter (r₂ = 0.83) correlated with a linear function but the increase in volume in relation to age corresponded to a quadratic function (r₃ = 0.73). Our results show the largest increases in the brachiocephalic trunk according to the following parameters: the length — between the 4th and 5th, and 7th and 8th months, diameter — between the 8th and 9th months and volume — between the 4th and 5th, and 7th and 9th months of gestation (p £ 0.01). The present study constructs a normal range for the morphometric features of the foetal brachiocephalic trunk.
Problems of the retention capacity of the landscape and related runoff conditions are at present, at the time of the occurrence of frequent storm floods, a topical problem. Our research was aimed at the evaluation of effects of physical-geographical factors on hydrological conditions of the Fryšávka River drainage area occurring in the southern part of the Žďárské vrchy CHKO (Žďárské Hills Protected Landscape Area) depending on the current position of the landscape cover. Preparation and analyses of source data were carried out in ArcGIS 9.2 in the ArcView software product by means of the set of integrated software applications ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcToolbox. To determine hydrological conditions at the absence of hydrometric observations a method was used of numbers of runoff curves CN in a modification of the DesQ-MAXQ deterministic episode model. Based on hydrological characteristics, potential retention was monitored as well as the volume of flood wave, concentration time and peak discharge. Hydrological modelling was carried out on a design storm precipitation with the return period of 100 years. The significance of physical-geographical factors affecting the landscape retention capacity and runoff conditions was quantified by the statistical method of multiple regression and correlation analysis on the set of 95 partial drainage areas of the studied region. The analyses were carried out using the UNISTAT system. The method makes possible to select independent variables by gradual steps from most important down to least important. Finally, using the step linear regression, a certain number of independent variables was selected mostly affecting the size of a respective dependent variable together with the quantification of their operation through regression coefficients. Results achieved could be used at the implementation of preventive measures resulting in increasing the retention capacity of partial drainage areas, which served for the registration of major runoffs from a unit area.
In the world of plants frost is a particularly dangerous phenomenon. Destructive effect of frost on plants is both direct and secondary. The amount of damage done by frost depends on its intensity, frequency, a season of its occurrence and a plant species. The aim of the work was to find spatial and temporal distribution of ground frost in Poland and to determine effect of minimum air temperature at the ground level on the dates of phenological phases and harvesting and duration of development stages and also on the quantity of cucumber yield of pickling cultivars at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Source materials used in the present study were collected from 28 experimental stations of COBORU and from 51 meteorological stations of IMGW in the years 1966–2005. Ground frost was characterised, e.g., by means of average dates of last spring and first autumn frost, duration of the period without frost and also intensity and frequency of its occurrence and a linear trend. Effect of minimum air temperature at the ground level on the growth, development and crop productivity of cucumber was determined with the use of linear and curvilinear regression analysis and the linear trend of occurrence of last spring and first autumn frost and duration of the period without frost with the use of linear regression analysis. Ground frost poses high potential risk for field cultivation of cucumber in Poland not only because of the fact that it significantly determines the rate of growth, development and yield quantity of the plant but also because of its high spatial and temporal variability; the highest cultivation risk occurs in north-eastern Poland where significant shortening, year by year, of the period without frost was proved and where the highest frequency of frost occurrence both at the beginning and at the end of the cucumber growing season is recorded.
