The basic plastics transit packages include drums, boxes and canisters. Drums are made most often of polyethylene. They are packages for liquid, loose and greasy products. In the case of drums for dangerous materials the thickness of their walls should not be lower than 4 mm. The laboratory tests of mechanical properties of a designed package should be carried out in the course of designing. Plastics boxes are reusable transit packages of high mechanical resistance. Plastics boxes are produced by injection moulding method. The injection mould correctly designed and made is decisive for the quality of plastics boxes. In the designing of boxes considerable significance has the selection of material. Boxes can be classified into partitioned, partitionless and tote boxes. Canisters are made most often of high density polyethylene. They are applied for packing many chemical products. The type and quality of applied material have a considerable influence upon the mechanical properties of canisters. The decisive element for the quality of the canister is the tightness of its closure.
