The article deals with the problems related to fulfilment in Poland of the food quality policy. The author discusses in it the Community's system of registration and protection of regional and traditional products, and the reasons for introduction of the solutions serving protection and awarding the products whose specific features issue from the connection with the region of manufacturing or use of traditional method of production, as well as he presents the Community's legal bases and economic importance for certain European states. He also presents the essential problems connected with development of the market for high-quality products in Poland. The comprise: 1) lack of producer groups and reluctance to join action to develop the product; 2) high costs of participation in the high- quality foods systems; 3) low awareness among consumers; 4) complex control procedures. In the author's opinion, the problems connected with costs of participation in the foods quality systems should be overcome together with launching the Programme for Rural Areas Development for the years 2007-2013.
