The objective of the paper is to present the changes in capital resources (in the form of foreign direct investment), which were located in the Czech food industry and the assessment of development trends in the inflow of FDI into the food industry in the years 2002-2011. The analyses conducted show that in the period considered, the Czech food industry was neglected by foreign investors, if compared with other manufacturing industries. The cumulative value of foreign investment in this industry estimated at the end of 2011 amounted to EUR 2.3 billion, which accounted for 7.9% of the capital resources (in the form of FDI) invested in the manufacturing sector.
Drought is a major limitation for rice production in rainfed ecosystems. Identifying quantitative trait loci (QTLs) linked to drought resistance provides opportunity to breed high yielding rice varieties suitable for drought-prone areas. Although considerable efforts were made in mapping QTLs associated with drought-resistance traits in rice, most of the studies involved indica × japonica crosses and hence, the drought-resistance alleles were contributed mostly by japonica ecotypes. It is desirable to look for genetic variation within indica ecotypes adapted to target environment (TE) as the alleles from japonica ecotype may not be expressed under lowland conditions. A subset of 250 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) of F₈ generation derived from two indica rice lines (IR20 and Nootripathu) with contrasting drought-resistance traits were used to map the QTLs for morpho-physiological and plant production traits under drought stress in the field in TE. A genetic linkage map was constructed using 101 polymorphic PCR-based markers distributed over the 12 chromosomes covering a total length of 1,529 cM in 17 linkage groups with an average distance of 15.1 cM. Composite interval mapping analysis identified 22 QTLs, which individually explained 4.8–32.2% of the phenotypic variation. Consistent QTLs for drought-resistance traits were detected using locally adapted indica ecotypes, which may be useful for rainfed rice improvement.
The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the innovative behavior of enterprises located in rural areas of Lubelskie Voivodeship. The results presented and the analysis are based on the research project entitled “Intellectual Capital of Lublin Region 2010-2013.” It was conducted by the Statistical Office in Lublin at the request of the Marshal Office in Lubelskie Voivodeship under Priority VIII Regional Human Resources, Measure 8.2 Transfer of Knowledge, Sub-Measure 8.2.2 Regional Innovation Strategies of the Human Capital Programme for the years 2007-2013. An analysis of research shows that the innovation of enterprises in the region of Lublin is at a very low level. An unfavorable phenomenon is the low share of foreign capital in the financing of expenditure, as well as a small degree of cooperation between research institutes and enterprises located in rural areas.
The objective of the study is to analyze regions’ potential investment attractiveness and its influence on the location of enterprises. The analysis was based on a secondary study carried out regionally in 2012 for the year 2010. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient was applied in the study regarding the connection between potential investment attractiveness and enterprises’ location, measured by the number of located entities per 10 thousands residents. Correlated variables confirmed the existence of a positive connection between the variables hypothesis.
The aim of the study was to examine the agrotouristic farms operating in Biebrza National Park regarding their land resource and its exploitation, utilization of agricultural production. The study was conducted in 2010 and 2011 in 25 farms. The source material was collected through direct interviews. The questionnaire directed to the farms owners was used as a research tool. Obtained results were related to 2010. The average size of the surveyed agricultural farm area was 18.47 ha. The farms with agricultural land above 20 ha amounted to 36%. The raw food was used for the purpose of tourists and families nutrition in 40,7% of the analyzed farms. Additionally 46,3% of raw food was allocated for sale, and 13% was used for the purpose of agricultural production. Based on the conducted studies, it was determined that some of the surveyed farms owners were not actively farming, however benefited from the privileges of providing cost-free touristic services, which have become the main source of the income in the farm.
At present theories explaining location of different firms from all economical sectors create special scientific stream in economical geography. Many theories have been put forward to explain the location of various types of economic activities since the 19th century. Some of them concern only to agriculture or industry. Others concern to modern forms of human, economical activity. In the modern approach, the location of a business also includes the results of the procedure of selecting a site at which an economic activity of a certain kind will be conducted. The location theory aims to define the spatial organisation of a company and to find the variables which will make it possible to state the location and to find analytical solutions. Agglomerations, due to high power of attracting and retaining the capital and entrepreneurial-minded staff, provide a good location for small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs). Some theories of industrial location base on the concept of networking, which perceives the enterprise operation as a chain of various activities. Businesses develop while manufacturing goods, then they transfer those goods to successive entities. At present there are not many researches in literature explaining location, including sector of SMEs. Agritourism activity is the example of this sector creating in rural areas in many parts of Poland.
During the 2004 summer season, 14 sediment samples were collected in Kongs- fjorden and Isfjorden, West Spitsbergen, from 6 down to 345 m water-depth (mwd). The samples yielded abundant assemblage of monothalamous foraminifera, belonging to almost 40 morphotypes. Our qualitative (>125µm) and quantitative data (125-500µm) allowed to distinguish three water-depth related assemblages in both Kongsfjorden and Adventfjorden (branch of Isfjorden), indicating that soft-walled monothalamous foraminifera show similar habitat gradation along fjord axis as calcareous and robust agglutinated taxa. Among the monothalamous foraminifera, the subtidal assemblage (6 mwd) was dominated by various unidentified allogromiids. The second, shallow-water assemblage (44-110 mwd) was dominated by Psammophaga sp. 1-3, Hippocrepinella crassa, Hippocrepinella cf. hirudinea, and large Gloiogullmia sp. 2. The deep-water (150-345 mwd) monothalamous assemblage was dominated by Psammophaga sp. 4, pear-shaped Hippocrepina sp., Hippocrepina indivisa, and long Cylindrogullmia sp. 2, as well as large agglutinated species Hyperammina subnodosa with attached Tholosina bulla, Hyperammina fragilis and Lagenammina sp.
Common juniper (Juniperus communis L.) is the well-known and valuable medicinal plant. Juniper berry is used as a herbal medicine mainly due to its essential oil with diuretic, antiinflammatory, choleretic and cholagogue activities. Some other substances, as polyphenols, are present in juniper berries and other parts of this plant. The aim of this study was to estimate total polyphenols content in common juniper sprouts (leaves) originating from different places at the kujawsko-pomorskie province. The total polyphenols content was carried out by means of spectroscopic method with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and shown as pyrogallol equivalents. The obtained results ranged in limits from 2.40±0.23% to 3.43±0.17%.
