Parsley germplasm collection includes 184 accessions. The results of the estimation of variability of morphological and economic traits of root and leaf parsley are presented. During the year 2004, twenty eight accessions from gene bank were characterized. Among the accessions 8 cultivars originated from Australia, Russia, Germany, Poland and 20 were local cultivars from Ukraine, Moldova, Slovakia, Romania and Poland. The observations included 19 traits of leaves and 6 traits of roots selected from the UPOV descriptor list (height of plant, density of foliage, attitude of plants, length, width, size, shape, colour of leaf blade and leaf petiole; length, thickness, shape and branching of root; downy mildew infection, aroma, etc.). Two local cultivars from Slovakia and Poland distinguished by long, thick, white coloured roots and high, lush foliage can be recommended for breeding. The characterization of parsley germplasm enriches the existing database and allows the identification of additional useful traits of the collected material, and making use of them in breeding.
