There are many views on what patriotic education actually is. In Poland and other countries it has traditions going many years back. Its aims depend on many social, political and even economic conditions. The family, peer group, various organisations, historic period, mass media, school - and the teacher, are extremely important factors in the formation of patriotic attitudes. It is knowledge, views, character of the teachers that influences, to a great extent, the mode of patriotic education. Considering this, the aim of this paper is to answer the questions: - How diverse are geography teachers' views on patriotic education? - What aims of patriotic education do the teachers adopt for themselves during geography lessons? - What contents in the field of geography serve the aims of patriotic education in geography lessons? - What methods, techniques and forms of work do the teachers use to achieve patriotic education aims? In order to answer these questions, a survey research has been conducted among 74 geography teachers from the Świętokrzyskie and Podkarpackie regions.
Do niedawna jeszcze ekologia i ochrona środowiska były w nauce szkolnej pomijane lub traktowane marginesowo. Wynikiem tego jest m.in. brak kultury ekologicznej w społeczeństwie, co z kolei ma istotny wpływ na podejście do spraw ochrony środowiska. Kształtowanie świadomości ekologicznej należy podejmować od lat najmłodszych, stąd wielka rola szkoły. Autorka podaje jako przykład swój program kształtowania postaw proekologicznych, realizowany w szkole podstawowej na lekcjach chemii.
