The paper describes two cases of sarcoids in horses non-responsive to therapeutic procedures. Microscopic examinations of tumor tissue revealed the presence of an evident difference in the degree of collagen fiber synthesis between both examined tumors. The nuclear expression of proliferate antigen Ki 67 was significantly higher in the tumor tissue exhibiting low collagen fiber synthesis. The differences in the microscopic structure between these 2 tumors were reflected in the degree of differentiation between the cells of the tumors. The paper also discussed the ethiopathogenesis of equine sarcoids and the animals’ immune status role in the disease development and progress, as well as the latest methods used in effective sarcoid therapy.
The aim of the examinations was to define the kinds of neoplastic changes in dog’s prostate using biopsy techniques and histopathological method. Fifty dog’s prostates which were received during the post mortem examination were used for the examination. In 14 cases neoplastic changes were diagnosed, 4 cases evidenced purulent inflammation, 17 no neoplastic growth, and 15 prostates had a normal structure. In this article these two described below methods of pathomorphological diagnosis are compared, simultaneously demonstrating their usefulness and the complete agreement of received results.
Anatomic and histopatological examinations were carried out on 24 foxes 2 do 4-month old that died with symptoms typical of the chronic cor pulmonale syndrome. Some posthumuos changes were determined in the chronic cor pulmonale syndrome characteristic of circulation insufficiency, myocardial hypertrophy, ventricle dilator. Massive adipose degeneration of the liver and parenchymatous of the kidney, including necrosis were determined. No changes in the lymphatic system were reported, that could imply a possibility of a bacterial or viral infection.
The presence of subendocardial and subintimal calcium deposits is reported as a rare pathological lesion. According to the literature on the topic, changes of this type are found most often in the left atrium where the lesions appear as small grains and occasionally in the left aortal trunk together with ulcerative endocarditis and renal insufficiency. The calcification process appears as a metastatic or dystrophic one depending on the kind of base of calcium salt deposition. The article describes the lesions resulting from metastatic calcification found in the pulmonal artery, causing right heart failure and peripheral blood flow disturbances. The nutritional imbalance of Ca and P together with the excess of vitamins and mineral preparations are the cause of this type of lesions in carnivorous animals.
The studies were carried out on 35 European bisons of both sexes and various age. The animals were culled for the following reasons: poor condition, old age, lameness and diseases of the reproductive tract in males. Blood for biochemical tests was collected from the extern jugular vein, and the carcasses were autopsied and histopathologi- cally examined. An analysis of the relationships between selected biochemical blood parameters (total protein, immunoglobulins, urea, uric acid, alkaline phosphatase) points to the role of disorders of the urinary tract in males in the pathogenesis of diseases of the penis and prepuce. The results also suggest that disorders of the urinary tract which are common in both male and female European bisons incraese their susceptibility to other diseases.
In the imported cattle slaughtered in the Ostrołęka abattoir from June to December 1994, multiple purulent or necrotic nodules of various sizes, from pinhead to chestnut, have been found, mostly in interstitial tissue of various parts of muscles. These lesions were noted in 1.49-60.30% of the examined animals. Nocardia asteroides were isolated from a purulent focus, lymphatic node and lungs. Basing on bacteriological, gross and histopathological examinations, granulomatous lymphangitis and lymphadenitis due to N. asteroides infection were diagnosed.
