Similary to other fungal species of the genus Alternaria, Alternaria radicina is a major pathogen that infects both the aboveground and underground parts of carrot plants. Changes in the concentrations of phenolic compounds are observed in infected carrot plants. Carrot seedlings were inoculated with the most pathogenic isolates of Alternaria radicina selected in a laboratory test. A phytopathological analysis was performed to determine the health status of carrot plants. The concentrations of phenolic acids in petioles were determined four weeks after inoculation with A. radicina and at harvest. The results of a greenhouse experiment revealed more severe disease symptoms on carrot plants cv. Koral inoculated with A. radicina isolates, compared with cv. Bolero. The content of the predominant phenolic acid (chlorogenic acid) was found to decrease in the leaf stalks of carrots cv. Koral inoculated with A. radicina. A statistically non-significant increase in chlorogenic acid levels was noted in the leaf stalks of carrots cv. Bolero in the experimental and control groups.

Computer-aiding of mathematical modeling of the carrot (Daucus carota L.) root shape. The developed method refers to computer aided mathematical modeling of the carrot root. The Bézier curves were used in mathematical model for description of the carrot root shape. Two smoothly connected Bézier curves described half of longitudinal contour of carrot root cross section. After rotation of these curves, the obtained equations were subjected to scaling. The proposed mathematical model can serve the generating the 3D solids that are similar in respect of the shape and basic dimensions of carrot roots. In mathematical model it is possible to change the values of parameters that determine basic geometric dimensions (diameters and length of root) and the root shape (coordinates of nodal and check points of the Bézier curves).

Ca2+ acts as a second messenger which controls a wide variety of cellular functions. Ca2+ homeostasis is accomplished by a complex of mechanisms including pumps, ion channels and calcium buffers within storage compartments. Calreticulin is the low-affinity, high-capacity Ca2+-binding protein of most eucaryotic cells. The distribution of calreticulin was studied in isolated protoplasts and during different stages of somatic embryogenesis in carrot (Daucus carota L. cv. St Valery Lunga Rossa) suspension culture. Immunofluorescence staining of protoplasts showed the presence of calreticulin in the cytoplasm. No calreticulin was observed within vacuoles. During somatic embryogenesis calreticulin was distributed mainly in the protoderm of developing embryos in different stages.

Podczas suszenia w suszarce komorowej wprowadzano skokowe zmiany i wymuszenia prostokątne temperatury ±20°C względem poziomu odniesienia 70°C. Oznaczano następujące właściwości fizyczne suszonej marchwi: gęstość i skurcz kostek, rehydratację, siłę potrzebną do zgniecenia próbki po rehydracji i wyciek. Obniżenie temperatury suszenia na okres jednej godziny z 70°C do 50°C spowodowało uzyskanie suszu marchwiowego o niższej gęstości, porównywalnym skurczu, o zróżnicowanej rehydracji i nieznacznie podwyższonym wycieku. Podwyższenie temperatury suszenia na okres jednej godziny z 70°C do 90°C, spowodowało uzyskanie suszu marchwiowego o wyższej gęstości, porównywalnym skurczu, niższej rehydracji, niższym wycieku niż susze otrzymane w wyniku suszenia w stałej temperaturze 70°C.
